FRIED CHEESE BALLS RECIPE - FOOD FANATIC

Fried Cheese Balls Recipe - Food Fanatic image

What’s better than cheese? Fried cheese balls! Only three ingredients in this easy, cheesy appetizer that’s crunchy on the outside while melted and gooey on the inside.

Total Time 15 minutes

Prep Time 10 minutes

Cook Time 5 minutes

Yield 10

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 cups shredded gouda cheese, (8 ounces)
1 egg, or 2 egg whites
2 tablespoons cornstarch, or all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cracker crumbs, for dredging (optional)
vegetable oil, for frying
your favorite sauce, for dipping

Steps:

  • With an electric mixer or by hand, mix the cheese, egg and cornstarch (or flour) in a large bowl until a soft dough forms. Scoop 2 teaspoons of dough and roll into a ball. If desired, roll balls in cracker crumbs for an extra crispy coating. Refrigerate cheese balls until thoroughly chilled, about 30 minutes. In a medium frying pan, heat oil over high heat (350°F for deep frying). Fry cheese balls until golden brown, turning once, about 30-60 seconds per side. Drain on paper towels. Serve hot with your favorite sauce for dipping.

FRIED MOZZARELLA CHEESE BALLS RECIPE - TABLESPOON.COM

Fried Mozzarella Cheese Balls Recipe - Tablespoon.com image

Breaded and fried cheese cubes with a zesty pizza dipping sauce.

Provided by Girl Versus Dough

Total Time 30 minutes

Prep Time 20 minutes

Yield 5

Number Of Ingredients 7

8 ounces mozzarella cheese
1 cup Gold Medal™ unbleached all-purpose flour
2 eggs, beaten
1/4 cup milk
2 cups Progresso™ Italian-style bread crumbs
Vegetable oil
1/2 cup Muir Glen™ organic pizza sauce, to serve

Steps:

  • Cut mozzarella cheese into 1-inch cubes and set aside.
  • Place three shallow bowls beside each other, filling the first with flour, the second with the eggs and milk and the third with the breadcrumbs.
  • Roll each cheese cube in the flour, tapping off excess flour, then dip in egg mixture, then roll in breadcrumbs and place on a plate. Repeat with remaining cheese cubes until all are coated.
  • In a large skillet or saucepan, heat 2 inches of oil to 350°F (use a candy or deep-fry thermometer to gauge temperature). Set a large plate topped with a few paper towels off to the side.
  • Using a slotted spoon, lower a few cheese cubes at a time into the oil, making sure they stay separated while frying. Remove from oil using spoon after 1 minute or when the cubes are a golden brown and place on paper towels to drain. Let oil return to 350°F before making the next batch. Repeat until all cheese cubes are fried.
  • Heat pizza sauce in the microwave or on the stove top until warm; serve with warm, fried cheese balls.

  • Cook the macaroni according to the package directions. Drain and rinse the macaroni and set aside. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add 1 tablespoon of the flour and cook 1 minute, stirring with a whisk. Whisk in the milk and cook 3-4 minutes until the mixture reaches a low boil and thickens. Reduce the heat to low and stir in the cheeses and mix until melted. Add the pimientos, salt, and red pepper and stir to combine. Fold in the macaroni. (The mixture will be very thick.) Spread the macaroni mixture evenly into a 9-inch by 13-inch pan. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2 hours or until cold. Shape the cold macaroni mixture into 2-inch sized balls and place on a parchment lined sheet tray.  Place the potato chips in a gallon-sized zip-top bag. Using a rolling pin, gently roll over the bag to finely crush the chips. Pour the crushed chips into a shallow dish. Place the remaining 1 cup of flour in a shallow dish. Whisk the eggs in a small bowl. Roll each ball around in the flour, then dip in the eggs letting any excess egg drip off. Roll the ball in the crushed potato chips, firmly pressing the chips into the ball to create a solid coating. Return the balls to the baking sheet. Repeat to coat all of the balls. Heat the oil in a dutch oven or large pot until a thermometer registers 350°. Fry 6 balls at a time for 4 to 5 minutes or until golden brown and hot in the center. Drain on paper towels. Serve warm.
