Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, add the cake mix, melted butter, milk, and eggs. Using a mixer, beat until blended.
- Add in the pudding mix and vanilla extract, if using. Stir until blended.
- Spray a 9 cup Bundt pan, 2 8-ounce round pans, or one 9" by 13" baking dish with cooking spray. Sprinkle the pan(s) with flour. Bake the cake for the amount of time directed on the package. The cake is done when a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
HOW TO MAKE BOX CAKE BETTER (TASTE HOMEMADE) - CAKEWHIZ
Steps:
- In a deep bowl, mix together butter and eggs.
- Add the cake mix powder, pudding, milk, vanilla extract and mix until just combined. Don't over-mix!
- Pour this batter into 2 greased/floured 8x2 round cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes or until an inserted toothpick in the center comes out clean.
- This step is optional but it makes the cake SUPER MOIST! I highly recommend it. Let this cake cool down and come to room temperature. Remove the cake from your pan. Then, wrap it up in saran wrap multiple times and place it in the freezer overnight. This seals in all the moisture. The next day, let your cake come to room temperature and then cover it in chocolate frosting! Enjoy!

You can make it fancy like restaurants do by putting this mixture into a cake decorating tube with a fancy tip and pipe it into small dishes for individual servings. I have even used a plastic bag, cut off the corner, placed a fancy decorating tip in the corner, added the butter mixture and piped it into tiny dishes I got at the dollar store. One for each dinner guest is a nice touch.
I store the whipped butter in a glass covered container on the counter top in cooler weather. In warmer weather I store it in the refrigerator and bring it to room temperature before using.
