GRUYERE POTATO GRATIN RECIPE | ALLRECIPES



Gruyere Potato Gratin Recipe | Allrecipes image

This is a traditional Swiss recipe from my Grossmutter.

Yield 1 - 9x13 inch pan

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 tablespoons softened butter
2 ½ pounds potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
2 large onions, chopped
salt and pepper to taste
1 cup shredded Gruyere cheese
¾ cup white wine
⅓ cup water
¾ cup heavy cream

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Butter a 9x13 inch baking dish with the softened butter.
  • Toss the potato slices and chopped onions with salt and pepper, and spread 1/3 of the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle half of the Gruyere cheese over the potatoes, then add another layer of potatoes. Sprinkle on the remaining cheese followed by the remaining potatoes. Mix together the water and wine, and pour into dish. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil.
  • Bake in preheated oven until the potatoes are tender, about 1 hour 15 minutes. Once tender, remove the foil, and pour the cream evenly over the potatoes. Bake uncovered for an additional 15 minutes to brown the top and thicken the cream.

Serve this dip with assorted vegetable dippers. It's also tasty as a condiment spread on turkey burgers.

Yield 16 servings (serving size: 2 tablespoons)

Number Of Ingredients 10

½ cup chopped onion
Cooking spray
4 ounces shredded Gruyère cheese (about 1 cup)
½ cup canola mayonnaise
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
½ teaspoon dry mustard
⅛ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 (8-ounce) block fat-free cream cheese, softened
2 tablespoons chopped green onions
4 center-cut bacon slices, cooked and crumbled

Steps:

  • Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add onion to pan; sauté 5 minutes or until tender. Remove from heat.
  • Place onion in a 2 1/2-quart electric slow cooker coated with cooking spray. Add cheese and next 5 ingredients (through cream cheese). Stir until blended. Cover and cook on LOW for 1 1/2 hours or until cheese melts, stirring after 45 minutes. Top with green onions and bacon.
