Foiled again..!! The favorite part of this meal will be the easy clean-up. The foil holds the juices in while the soup mix flavors the meat and vegetables. Great recipe for camping too.

1 (1 1/2 lb) chuck steaks
1 (8 ounce) package beefy onion soup mix or 1 (8 ounce) package savory herb with garlic soup mix
3 potatoes, peeled and sliced
3 carrots, peeled and sliced
2 tablespoons butter or 2 tablespoons margarine

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C)
  • Place chuck steak on a large enough piece of aluminum foil to completely cover meat and vegetables. Place in center of a baking sheet; spread dry soup mix on top of steak meat.
  • Add potatoes, carrots and butter on top. Seal foil and bake 1 to 1 1/2 hours, or until vegetables are soft. Remove from oven and serve hot.

How to make Foil Wrapped Steak

2 pound(s) round steak
2 tablespoon(s) butter
1 teaspoon(s) garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon(s) black pepper
1 large onion, sliced
1 - bell pepper, sliced
1 - carrot, shredded
1 - celery ribs, bias cut 1 inch
1 tablespoon(s) worcestershire sauce

Steps:

  • Trim the ligament and fat from the round steak.
  • Place double layer of aluminum foil in bottom of shallow baking pan (9x15x2 or thereabouts in size).
  • Place meat on foil.
  • Spread unmelted butter on top of meat, season with garlic powder, pepper and half of worcestershire sauce or powder.
  • Pile vegetables on top.
  • Top with remaining worcestershire.
  • Cover with 2 additional layers of foil, wrap tightly to keep steam and juices inside.
  • Bake 2 1/2 hours in 350 oven.

This is a very comforting, hearty meal and is so easy to make. My husband's favorite part is the beefy gravy. Note: A few people have commented on the vegetables being undercooked. In response, I have adjusted the cooking time for this recipe. Also, one person commented on the meat being tough. This is probably because cube steak is generally a cheap cut of beef. For better results, I have used and would suggest flank steak.
