Quesadilla Burgers Recipe | Allrecipes image

This is a great twist on the hamburger that everyone is sure to love! It's a combination of southwest and the classic American hamburger. I have three kids who all eat very differently from one another and this was a hit for them as well as hubby! I like to serve these with either sweet potato fries or green bean fries!

Number Of Ingredients 10

½ cup sour cream
¼ cup ranch dressing
¼ cup taco sauce
4 (4 ounce) hamburger patties
1 dash Worcestershire sauce, or to taste
8 flour tortillas
2 cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
2 cups shredded Colby-Jack cheese
½ head lettuce, shredded, or to taste
3 tablespoons picante sauce, or to taste

Steps:

  • Mix sour cream, ranch dressing, and taco sauce together in a bowl until Southwest sauce is smooth. Cover bowl and refrigerate for flavors to blend.
  • Preheat an outdoor grill for medium-high heat and lightly oil the grate.
  • Cook hamburger patties in the preheated grill for 5 minutes, seasoning with Worcestershire sauce. Flip patties. Arrange tortillas on the grill and lower heat to medium-low under tortillas. Add Cheddar cheese and Colby-Jack cheese to tortillas; cook until cheeses melt, 2 to 4 minutes. Continue cooking hamburger patties until cooked through, about 5 minutes more. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 160 degrees F (70 degrees C).
  • Spread Southwest sauce onto 1/2 of the tortillas; top with lettuce and picante sauce. Place 1 hamburger patty on top of picante sauce layer and top patty with a tortilla, creating a sandwich.

ground beef

clove garlic, minced

jalapeño, minced

1 tsp.

chili powder

Kosher salt

Freshly ground black pepper

5 tbsp.

vegetable oil, divided

8

small flour tortillas

1 1/2 c.

shredded cheddar

1 1/2 c.

shredded Monterey Jack

1 1/2 c.

shredded lettuce

1 c.

pico de gallo

1/2 c.

sour cream, for drizzling

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, garlic, jalapen~o, and chili powder and season with salt and pepper. Mix until just combined, then shape mixture into 4 thin patties. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat 1 tablespoon of oil. Cook patties to your desired doneness, about 4 minutes per side for medium. Transfer to a plate and wipe skillet clean. Heat 1 tablespoon oil over medium heat. Add a flour tortilla and top with a small handful each of cheeses and lettuce. Place a cooked burger on top, then top with more cheese, and cup pico de gallo and a drizzle of sour cream. Top with a tortilla and cook until golden, about 2 minutes. Flip quesadilla and cook 2 minutes more. Repeat with remaining ingredients to make 4 quesadilla burgers.

  • In a large mixing bowl, crumble the ground beef. Add in onion, seasonings and Worcestershire sauce and mix well with your hands. Form into small patties. I like to make meatballs a little bigger than a handful and smash them flat. Cook the patties then drain on a paper towel. Lightly oil a pan on medium heat. Cut the tortillas in half then place a patty towards the cut side, leaving room around the round part of the tortilla. Put lettuce and sliced tomato on top of the patty and fold the tortilla closed around the patty, leaving the cut side exposed. Cook each of the wrapped burgers a couple minutes each side until the sides are crisp. Optional: serve with guacamole and salsa.

  • In a large pan over medium heat, heat oil. Cook onion until soft, 5 minutes. Add ground beef and spices, breaking up the meat with a wooden spoon, and season with salt and pepper. Invert pan to transfer the quesadilla onto the plate, then slide the quesadilla back onto the pan (golden side up). Cook until golden-brown on other side.  Slice into wedges before serving.
