An easy to make egg-free frosting that works great for decorating cookies for holidays, birthdays and parties. When you need to add coloring to icing, use color paste. If you use liquid coloring, you may need to add more confectioner's sugar.

½ cup butter, softened
½ cup shortening
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 cups confectioners' sugar
2 tablespoons milk

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, cream together the butter, shortening, and vanilla. Blend in confectioners' sugar, 1 cup at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in the milk, and continue mixing until light and fluffy. Keep icing covered until ready to decorate.

This is the best biscuit recipe I've ever tried. They always turn out perfectly, and bake up tall, light & fluffy! It's the only biscuit recipe I use now.

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 cup(s) flour
4 teaspoon(s) baking powder
3 teaspoon(s) sugar
1/2 teaspoon(s) salt
1/2 cup(s) butter flavor shortening (you can use regular also)
2/3 cup(s) milk
1 - egg

Steps:

  • In a medium sized bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Cut in the shortening until it resembles course crumbs. Beat the egg with milk, and stir into dry ingredients just until moistened.
  • Turn out onto a well floured surface, and knead 20 times. Trust me...just do it! Roll to 3/4 inch thickness; Cut with a 2 1/2 in. biscuit cutter. Place on a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake at 450 degrees F for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown.

In a large bowl, combine sugar, tapioca, extract, salt, food coloring if desired and reserved juice. Gently stir in the cherries; let stand for 15 minutes. Preheat oven to 375°. , On a lightly floured surface, roll 1 half of dough to a 1/8-in.-thick circle; transfer to a 9-in. pie plate. Trim to 1/2 in. beyond rim of plate. Add filling. Dot with butter., Roll remaining dough to a 1/8-in.-thick circle; cut into 1-in.-wide strips. Arrange over filling in a lattice pattern. Trim and seal strips to edge of bottom crust; flute edge. Bake until crust is golden brown and filling is bubbly, 55-60 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.
