The classic martini was made as a gin cocktail, but you can substitute for vodka if preferred.

Yield 1 cocktail

Number Of Ingredients 3

3 ounces gin (or vodka)
½ ounce dry vermouth
1 lemon twist or 3 olives skewered on a cocktail pick, for garnish

Steps:

  • Pour gin and vermouth into a shaker filled with ice. Stir and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with lemon twist or olives.

50ml dry gin
1 tsp dry vermouth
ice

Steps:

  • Put a martini glass in the fridge to chill for 10 mins. Pour the gin and vermouth into a mixing glass or jug filled with ice cubes. Stir with a mixing spoon until the outside of the glass is very cold, then taste to check the dilution. If needed, continue to stir until the martini is diluted and chilled to your liking.
  • Strain the martini into the chilled glass and serve.
