Birthday Cheesecake Wontons Recipe - Food.com image

These wontons are filled with a birthday cheesecake filling, and then topped with a strawberry powdered sugar.

2 quarts vegetable oil, for frying
12 ounces cream cheese
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup rainbow nonpareils
36 square wonton wrappers
1 large egg, whisked
1/2 cup dried strawberries
1 cup powdered sugar

Steps:

  • Fill a large pot halfway up with oil and heat to 365 degrees F. Line a plate with paper towels; set aside.
  • Beat together the cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Add the flour, sour cream and vanilla and stir once more until well combined. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour and up to overnight. Before using, fold in nonpareils.
  • To shape the wontons, work with one wrapper at a time. Add about a teaspoon or two of the cheesecake mixture in the center. Brush the edges with egg wash and then seal and crimp by bringing up the four corners and pinching to seal. Continue shaping until all the filling has been used.
  • Once oil is hot, carefully add a few of the wontons at a time and fry until golden brown, about 3 to 5 minutes. Transfer to a paper towel lined plate and continue frying the rest.
  • Place the powdered sugar and dried strawberries in a food processor and pulse until well combined and the strawberries are blended into the powdered sugar.
  • Dust the top of the wontons with the strawberry powdered sugar before serving.

4 ounce cream cheese
1 ounce sweet and sour chili sauce
1 -1/2 teaspoons mustard
1 teaspoon chili garlic paste
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar
4 ounce crab meat
2 ounce sliced water chestnuts, minced
1 ounce green onions, finely chopped
1 ounce mozzarella cheese, grated
1 ounce fontina cheese, grated
1 ounce panko breadcrumbs
25 small square wonton wrappers, approximately 3-1/2 inches

Steps:

  • Place the cream cheese, Sweet and sour chili sauce, mustard, chili garlic paste, lemon juice, and granulated sugar into a mixing bowl. Fold the ingredients together until thoroughly combined.
  • Add the crab meat, minced water chestnuts, and chopped green onions into the bowl. Continue folding the ingredients together until thoroughly combined.
  • Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese, fontina cheese and panko breadcrumbs into the bowl and over the other ingredients and continue folding gently until thoroughly and evenly combined.
  • Place the wonton skins onto a clean work surface or cutting board. Place a 1/2 ounce of filling onto the center of each wrapper. Lift the bottom and top flat edges of the wrapper up over the filling. Pinch the center sections of the top and bottom edges tightly together. Lift the left and right flat edges of the wrapper up over the filling. Carefully pinch the center sections of the left and right flat edges tightly together with the pinched center section of the top and bottom edges. When done correctly, the edges will remain slightly open at the 4 corner points, forming a flower-like shape.
  • Pour a generous amount of vegetable oil into a sauce pot or deep frying pan/skillet and the heat oil to 350 degrees F. Carefully place the wontons (a few at a time) into the hot oil and fry them until they become golden brown and crispy.
  • Arrange the crispy crab wontons on a serving platter with extra sweet and sour chili sauce on the side for dipping.

Place the wontons on a a parchment lined baking sheet and spray with cooking spray. Bake for ten minutes and then turn over and bake for an additional ten minutes until nice and crispy. About 2 minutes before they are done, spray with some additional cooking spray and dust with sugar and cinnamon. This way the sugar will caramelize on top.
