This is another Southern Family Favorite Recipe that my cousin Luvenia use to make all the time. It really smelled good from all the butter & cinnamon when she took it straight from the oven. The recipe is in my cookbook. When I was writing my book, I solicited recipes to add, and this is one that was submitted, & I certainly had to add it. The recipe reminded me of my child hood. Carolyn from North Robinson, Ohio submitted this recipe. I hope you like it as much as my family does.

2 cup(s) all purpose flour
3 teaspoon(s) baking powder
- pinch of salt
3/4 cup(s) water
1/2 cup(s) butter, softened
1 1/2 cup(s) sugar
2 teaspoon(s) cinnamon
3 cup(s) milk
1 1/2 teaspoon(s) vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Mix flour, baking powder, water & salt in a medium size bowl. Roll dough out on a floured surface, to about 1/4 inch thickness. Dot top of dough with butter.
  • Mix sugar and cinnamon together, then sprinkle 6 tablespoons sugar mixture over top of dough. Lift edge of dough and roll into 2 inch diameter (roll up like jelly roll). Coat bottom of a 9 X 13 X 2 inch dish with butter. Cut rolled dough into 3 inch lengths( will look like a cinnamon roll) and place in baking dish.
  • Blend milk, vanilla & 4 tablespoons sugar-cinnamon mixture in a medium size sauce pan, and bring to a brisk boil. Sprinkle remaining sugar on top of dough. Dot with remaining butter. Pour boiling milk over dough. The rolled dough will rise to top. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 30 to 40 minutes.

My Grandmother said that her mother would make this for her and 12 brothers and sisters. They didn't have alot and she made this when the family wanted apple pie but didn't have apples. She made it for me and it taste like apple pie. I hope you think so too.

- any pie crust recipe enough for bottom and top crust
3 stick(s) butter or margarine
1 cup(s) apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup(s) sugar
1/2 cup(s) brown sugar
1 teaspoon(s) cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon(s) ginger
1/2 teaspoon(s) nutmeg

Steps:

  • Roll out dough made from your favorite pie crust recipe into a large circle. Sprinkle both sugars and spices on top of rolled out dough. Cut butter in pieces on top of dough and sugars. Roll dough up as if making cinnamon rolls or a jelly roll. Place in a greased pie pan. Pour apple cider vinegar on top of rolled up dough and let sit for 5 to 6 minutes. Cut a few more pieces of butter on top and also sprinkle some sugar on top also. Let bake about 30 to 40 minutes or until golden brown. Please test for doneness.
