UPDATE: After the first review I edited the recipe using less butter. I am one of those cooks who never measures things, so I estimated, and obviously, it was too much butter. The idea is just to brush softened butter over the surface of the brie. I hope this is better! Thanks! This is great party food. A friend gave me this recipe after we all fell in love with it at her party. Enjoy!

1 (5 inch) brie round
1/4 cup brown sugar
3 tablespoons of softened butter
1/4 cup walnuts or 1/4 cup pecans
sliced French bread

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325.
  • Put brie in baking dish.
  • Brush on approximately 3 T. of softened butter.
  • Sprinkle about 1/4 cup of brown sugar over the brie.
  • Add a few (about 1/4 cup) of walnuts or chopped pecans, really just whatever you have on hand.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes.
  • Serve with sliced french bread.

For a decorative top, cut shapes from remaining puff pastry sheet with a 2-inch star-shaped cutter. Arrange stars on top of pastry before baking.

Number Of Ingredients 6

¼ cup firmly packed DOMINO Light Brown Sugar
¼ cup chopped pecans
1 tablespoon bourbon
½ (17.3-ounce) package frozen puff pastry sheets, thawed
1 (13.2-ounce) round Brie
French baguette slices, apple and pear slices, assorted crackers

Steps:

  • Stir together first 3 ingredients.
  • Place puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface; roll out fold lines. Spread brown sugar-and-pecan mixture in a 5-inch circle in center of puff pastry sheet. Place Brie round on top of pecan mixture.
  • Wrap puff pastry around Brie, pinching to seal tightly, and place on an aluminum foil-lined baking sheet, folded side down.
  • Bake at 400° for 25 minutes or until pastry is lightly brown. Cool 10 minutes on baking sheet. Serve warm with French baguette slices, apple and pear slices, and assorted crackers.

This is my signature dish. I adapted if from another recipe. To ensure the rind of the cheese doesn't burst, don't preheat the oven. Put the cheese in a cold oven then set the temperature so that it heats up slowly. When I am carmelizing the topping, I leave the door of my oven slightly open and I don't answer the phone. My favorite way to serve this is with french bread but water wafer crackers are a good choice too. I use a fresh strawberry on top for a garnish.
