The Ultimate Dry Rub for Ribs - Smoked BBQ Source image

This rub uses classic barbecue flavors and has the perfect balance of sweet, savory and heat for pork ribs.

8 tbsp smoked paprika
6 tbsp brown sugar
3 tbsp kosher salt
2 tbsp black pepper (freshly ground)
1 tbsp ground cumin
1 tbsp mustard powder
1 tbsp garlic powder
1 tbsp onion powder
¼ tsp hot cayenne pepper

Steps:

  • Mix rub ingredients in a bowl. For best results move rub to a rub shaker and then sprinkle evenly over your meat from a distance of around 12 inches.
  • Store in an airtight container. You can break the rub up with a fork before applying it the next time.

4 racks pork ribs (or as many racks as required)
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
1 teaspoon mustard powder
2 teaspoons salt
3 teaspoons brown sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325°F.
  • Cut pork ribs into sections of 3 or 4 bones.
  • Mix remaining ingredients well, sprinkle on both sides of ribs and rub into the meat.
  • Seal rib sections in foil with a tablespoon of water in each package, and bake for 2 hours on a cookie sheet in the center of the oven.
  • Open foil carefully as steam escapes.
  • Can be crisped on a hot BBQ if desired but will be great just the way it is.
  • (Enjoy with oven cooked potato nuggets for a really simple meal).

This is a dry rub I've experimented with for a while. I put this on a couple racks of Pork ribs, marinaded overnight then cooked slow in my smoker. Wow did they turn out great! Wife and kids loved them. I put a homemade BBQ sauce on one rack and none on the other. Both were great but I think the one without sauce was better. Though this was cooked in a smoker, it could also be done in the oven or BBQ.
