CHEDDAR-STUFFED TURKEY BURGER WITH AVOCADO RECIPE - NYT ...

Cheddar-Stuffed Turkey Burger With Avocado Recipe - NYT ... image

The secret to keeping lean turkey juicy as a burger? Adding fat. The burgers in this recipe, stuffed with cheese and a bit of butter, are moist, flavorful and, best of all, hold together and flip easily. These are best cooked on a flat-top griddle, burger-joint style, or you can use a large, wide skillet (like cast-iron) if that’s what you have. Both give the outside of these burgers an irresistible sear that keeps the juice and flavor inside the burger, not dripping through grill grates. Finally, Hawaiian buns are a must. Their softness and subtle sweetness give these burgers a universal appeal.

Provided by Sarah Copeland

Total Time 25 minutes

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 1/4 pounds lean ground turkey
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon dried parsley
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 tablespoon milk
2 tablespoons butter, plus more for cooking
5 (1-ounce) slices sharp Cheddar or horseradish Cheddar
4 Hawaiian hamburger buns
1 to 2 firm-ripe avocado, thinly sliced
Mayonnaise or other burger toppings (pickles, lettuce, tomato, mustard), to taste

Steps:

  • Combine the turkey, salt, pepper and parsley in a large bowl and mix with a fork or clean hands to season evenly. Add the egg and milk and stir to combine.
  • Divide the meat into four portions with damp hands and gently pack into four round patties, about 3/4-inch thick. (It will feel very sticky because of the egg, which helps burgers hold their shape as they cook.) Place burgers on a parchment-lined baking tray or plate. Cut the butter into slices and 1 slice of the cheese into 4 thin squares, about 1 inch across. (The butter and cheese should be the same size.) Press a piece of each into the center of each burger. Shape the meat around it to cover across the top. Refrigerate for 10 minutes while you prepare the griddle.
  • Heat a flat-top griddle or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Add enough butter just lightly coat the griddle or pan. Add the burgers to the griddle and cook until browned and just cooked through and a thermometer inserted into the meat (not the cheese in the center) reaches 165 degrees, about 4 minutes per side. In the final 2 minutes of cooking, add the remaining 4 cheese slices to the burgers, to melt.
  • Remove the burgers from the heat and layer onto the buns with the avocado and any other burger toppings you desire. Serve warm.

BAC-AVO BURGERS |BACON + AVOCADO STUFFED BURGERS | KETO ...

Bac-Avo Burgers |Bacon + Avocado Stuffed Burgers | Keto ... image

A simple, easy-to-make recipe; no seasoning packets added that would make your body feel yucky. Just all-natural, delicious ingredients, combined to make the tastiest and juiciest burgers EVER! These Bac-Avo burgers are also keto and low-carb friendly.

Provided by Cherelle German

Total Time 0S

Number Of Ingredients 8

5 Button Mushrooms (finely diced)
1/2 Pack of bacon (finely diced)
1 Large egg
1 teaspooon Sea Salt
2 teaspooons Dried Onion Flakes
1 teaspoon Granulated Garlic
1lb Ground Beef
1 Small to Medium Avocado (diced)

Steps:

  • Take 5 button mushrooms and finely dice them (or mince). Add finely diced mushrooms to your mixing bowl.
  • Finely Dice 1/2 pack of raw bacon. Add the finely diced bacon to the finely diced mushrooms in your mixing bowl. I would NOT substitute for turkey bacon here. You need good old-fashioned pork bacon, in all of its greasy, juicy glory. Trust me!
  • Add ONE egg to the mushroom – bacon mixture. Crack one egg and add it to your mushroom – bacon mixture. Combine until well mixed. The reason we start combining now, before adding the ground beef is that we don’t want to overwork the ground beef and make our burgers tough.
  • Add seasonings – 1 teaspoon salt, 2 teaspoons dried onion flakes, 1 teaspoon granulated garlic. Add the seasonings to the mixture and mix everything together really well.
  • Add the 1 lb of ground beef to your pre-mixed mixture and mix it ever so carefully. You don’t want to overwork your meat as it will make your burgers tough.
  • Add one diced avocado. Scoop the pit out, dice your avocado and add it to the meat mixture. Be very gentle as you incorporate the avocado so that the avocado will stay in diced form.
  • Form into patties and cook. I like to cook mine in my Presto Electric Skillet. But you can choose to cook these in a frying pan, cast iron, or even on the grill. Start out cooking them a bit lower, to ensure the bacon is cooked thoroughly, and then turn the heat up to brown on both sides. I like to place a lid on while these are cooking at their low temperature.
  • Eat alone as a low-carb meat patty, or place in a bun and load it with your favorite toppings for a nice, juicy burger.
