PECAN APPLE PIE RECIPE: HOW TO MAKE IT

- On a lightly floured surface, roll dough to two 1/8-in.-thick circles; transfer to two 9-in. pie plates. Trim and flute edges; set aside. In a large bowl, combine sugar, flour, cinnamon and salt; add apples and toss to coat. Pour into crusts. , For the topping, combine brown sugar, flour and oats; cut in butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over apples. Cover edges loosely with foil. Bake at 375° for 25 minutes. Remove foil; bake 25-30 minutes longer or until filling is bubbly. Sprinkle with pecans; drizzle with caramel topping. Cool on wire racks.

Steps:
- Place one pie crust in a 9 inch deep dish pie pan.
- Fill pie crust with sliced or cubed apples.
- Mix sugar, flour, cinnamon and salt in a bowl.
- Pour this mixture over apples and top with butter.
- Seal top crust to bottom crust.
- Cut ventilation holes in top of crust. (If crust is not well sealed it will leak when baking. I bake on a cookie sheet).
- Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes or until crust is done.
- Remove from oven, press down top.
- Mix butter brown sugar and milk in a pan and bring to a boil.
- Add pecans to this mixture and stir to coat.
- Pour over pie and return to oven for 5 minutes.

- "To make the pastry dough: In a kitchen aid mixer you will mix together the flour, sugar, salt, and butter until the mixture resembles a coarse cookie dough. You will add cold water and pulse until the dough has come together. You will take the dough from the mixer and add to a lightly floured work surface. You will start to knead the dough out with your hands until flattened somewhat. Once the dough is flat to about a half an inch to an inch in thickness you will cover it with plastic wrap and hold in the fridge until ready for it. - In a bowl mix peeled apples, lemon juice, sugar, flour and ¼ teaspoon salt. Set aside. For crumb topping, cut the butter into the flour with a pastry cutter, then add in brown sugar, oats, and ¼ teaspoon salt. Add apples to prepared pie shell and top with crumb topping. Cover crust edges with aluminum foil and bake in a 375 degree oven for 25 minutes. Remove foil from crust and place back into the oven for another 30 minutes.
