BREAD ROLLS RECIPE - FOOD.COM

Bread Rolls Recipe - Food.com image

I've tried many, many bread recipes, and this is the best roll recipe I've come across. It's super fast, super easy, and you'd have to try hard to mess it up. The easiest way to get the perfect temperature water for your yeast is to do 1 part boiling water to 2 parts cold. Perfect every time!

Total Time 55 minutes

Prep Time 15 minutes

Cook Time 40 minutes

Yield 16 rolls

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 (1/4 ounce) packages yeast
3 1/2-4 1/2 cups white bread flour
3 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
1/2 cup boiling water
1/4 cup butter, room temperature

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, mix milk with water. Add sugar, yeast, and butter. Stir until yeast is dissolved and set aside for 10 minutes or until yeast has foamed up a bit.
  • In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Use the lower amount of flour to start with and add more only if the dough is really too sticky.
  • Add yeast mixture to flour and mix.
  • Knead until smooth and elastic. (I use a hand mixer with a kneading attachment.).
  • Place in greased bowl, cover tightly with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 15 minutes.
  • Oil your hands and shape the dough into rolls and place in a well-greased pan. I use 2 round non-stick cake pans.
  • Cover loosely with plastic wrap and let rise another 15 minutes.
  • Bake at 400 for about 10 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Let these cool down before you remove them from the pan or they will likely tear.

DINNER ROLLS RECIPE: HOW TO MAKE IT - TASTE OF HOME
dinner rolls recipe: how to make it - taste of home image
My family loves the fragrance of these dinner rolls as they bake, and each person has come to expect them whenever I make a special meal. After that meal, these rolls can be easily reheated and "freshened." Just pop them in the microwave, or put them in a moistened paper bag and then place the bag in an oven on low heat. —Anna Baker, Blaine, Washington

MAKE-AHEAD YEAST ROLLS RECIPE | SOUTHERN LIVING
This recipe, from reader Carole Miller Radford, originally appeared in Southern Living's November 1995 issue. Radford shared her family's favorite Thanksgiving menu, which included her wonderfully easy and delicious Make-Ahead Yeast Rolls. Our test kitchen described the dough as "excellent" and "supple," saying that it can be formed into a variety of shapes. You can make the dough ahead of time, refrigerate it, and let it rise at room temperature until doubled in size, about 1 1/2 hours. Or you can make the rolls, let them cool, and freeze them in Ziploc freezer bags. Either way, these tender, buttery rolls will be a welcome addition to any family meal. Radford says this recipe "turns out the same way, no matter what mood you're in or what the weather is." We didn't even need to butter the tops.
