Stromboli Sandwich Recipe: How to Make It image

I've made this Stromboli sandwich many times for parties, and it gets great reviews. You can add ingredients and spices to suit your taste. The recipe is so good I just had to share it with you! —Leigh Lauer, Hummelstown, Pennsylvania

Number Of Ingredients 15

2 loaves (1 pound each) frozen bread dough, thawed
1/4 pound sliced ham
1/4 pound sliced pepperoni
1/4 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup chopped green pepper
1 jar (14 ounces) pizza sauce, divided
1/4 pound sliced mozzarella cheese
1/4 pound sliced bologna
1/4 pound sliced hard salami
1/4 pound slice Swiss cheese
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 tablespoons butter, melted

Steps:

  • Let dough rise in a warm place until doubled. Punch down. Roll loaves together into one 15x12-in. rectangle. Layer ham and pepperoni on half of the dough (lengthwise). Sprinkle with onion and green pepper. Top with 1/4 cup of pizza sauce. Layer mozzarella, bologna, salami and Swiss cheese over sauce. Sprinkle with basil, oregano, garlic powder and pepper. Spread another 1/4 cup of pizza sauce on top. Fold plain half of dough over filling and seal edges well. Place on a greased 15x10x1-in. baking pan. Bake at 375° until golden brown, 30-35 minutes. Brush with melted butter. Heat the remaining pizza sauce and serve with sliced stromboli.

Quick, simple and packed with flavor, this homemade stromboli using pizza dough is a seriously delicious take on the cousin to pizza. With 15 minutes of prep time and 35 minutes total to make, our Easy Stromboli recipe will save you a whole lot of time spent in the kitchen and give you back a few more minutes to sit down and enjoy the meal with the fam.

1/2 lb. lean ground beef (at least 80% lean)
1 can (13.8 oz) refrigerated Pillsbury™ Classic Crust Pizza Crust
1/4 cup pizza sauce
4 oz. (1 cup) shredded mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup chopped green and/or red bell pepper, if desired
1/4 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 400°F. Spray cookie sheet with nonstick cooking spray. Brown ground beef in medium skillet over medium-high heat until thoroughly cooked, stirring frequently. Drain. Set aside.
  • Unroll dough; place on sprayed cookie sheet. Starting at center, press out dough with hands to form 12x8-inch rectangle.
  • Spread sauce over dough to within 2 inches of long sides and 1/2 inch of short sides. Place cooked ground beef lengthwise down center, forming 3-inch-wide strip and to within 1/2 inch of short sides. Top with cheese, bell pepper and Italian seasoning. Fold long sides of dough over filling; press edges to seal.
  • Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until crust is golden brown.

  • Sprinkle a little cornmeal on a pizza paddle. Put the stromboli on the paddle. Make sure the seam is on the bottom. Use a pastry brush to brush the top and sides of the stromboli with a little olive oil. Carefully place the stromboli on preheated pizza stone. Turn down oven temperature to 400 degrees F. and bake for 35 minutes. Carefully remove from oven and let rest 5 to 10 minutes. Slice with a serrated knife.
