How to Cook a Spiral Ham Recipe - Tablespoon.com image

For many, the big holiday feast wouldn’t be complete without a glossy, baked spiral ham sitting in the middle of the dining table. There’s no reason to be nervous about making this holiday staple either, because it’s actually pretty easy to learn how to cook spiral ham, because technically they come pre-cooked. Spiral ham tastes best warm and fresh out of the oven, but it tastes even better when it's covered in a rich, sweet glaze. Whether you have a holiday gathering or a special occasion coming up, learn to master this tradition of cooking a delicious spiral ham in the oven so you can share the delicious custom with your friends and family.

Provided by Macheesmo

Total Time 1 hours 30 minutes

Prep Time 10 minutes

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 (5-7 pound) spiral-cut ham
1 lemon, sliced thin
1 cup water
1/2 cup honey
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons water
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325°F. In a roasting pan, place sliced lemons and pour water in the bottom of the pan. Place spiral ham cut-side down on the lemons and cover loosely with foil.
  • Bake the ham for about 10 minutes per pound until it is just warmed through. Spiral ham is completely cooked already (so you can even serve it cold if you want).
  • Meanwhile, combine glaze ingredients in a small saucepan and heat until ingredients are mixed. Let the glaze bubble and simmer for 5-10 minutes until the glaze starts to thicken. Then let it cool.
  • When ham is done, uncover it and drizzle glaze over the top.
  • Serve ham slices warm.

HOW TO MAKE HONEY-GLAZED HAM IN THE SLOW COOKER - KITCHN

How To Make Honey-Glazed Ham in the Slow Cooker - Kitchn image

Prep Time 600S

Cook Time 18000S

Yield 12

Number Of Ingredients 6

3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup Dijon mustard
10 whole cloves
1 (8- to 10-pound) bone-in, spiral-cut ham

Steps:

  • Make the glaze. Place 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar, 1/2 cup honey, 1/2 cup water, 1/4 cup Dijon mustard, and 10 whole cloves in a small saucepan and bring to a simmer over medium-high heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Simmer until the glaze is homogeneous and fragrant from the cloves, about 5 minutes. Remove from the heat, then remove the cloves with a spoon.
  • Prepare the ham. Place 1 spiral-cut ham in a 6-quart or larger slow cooker, making sure you can put the lid on. You may have to turn the ham on its side, or trim a bit off the top if your ham is too large. Gently pull apart the ham's slices and separate them.
  • Add the glaze. Pour the glaze over the ham, trying to cover as much of the ham as possible, but not worrying too much, as the glaze will fall back into the slow cooker.
  • Cook and baste the ham. Cover and cook on the LOW setting for 4 to 5 hours. Every hour (or as you remember), baste the ham with the glaze. You can also flip the ham halfway through cooking, if desired. The ham is ready when it reaches an internal temperature of 140°F. Serve with the thickened glaze.
