OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE BLOOMIN' ONION RECIPE - FOOD.COM

Outback Steakhouse Bloomin' Onion Recipe - Food.com image

This is the whole Outback Steakhouse Bloomin' Onion Sha-bang! I've done it twice for Superbowl and it's great-easier to do the second time but not hard at all.

Total Time 24 minutes

Prep Time 20 minutes

Cook Time 4 minutes

Yield 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 25

1/3 cup cornstarch
1 1/2 cups flour
2 teaspoons garlic, minced
2 teaspoons paprika
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
24 ounces beer
4 vidalia onions (I use walla wallas here in Calgary)
2 cups flour
4 teaspoons paprika
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne
1 pint mayonnaise
1 pint sour cream
1/2 cup tomato chili sauce
1/2 teaspoon cayenne
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 teaspoons ketchup
2 teaspoons creamed horseradish
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon dried oregano
1 dash black pepper
1 dash cayenne

Steps:

  • ---------Alrighty-forthe seasoned flour-----------.
  • combine flour, paprika, garlic powder, pepper and cayenne-mix well.
  • --------Creamychili sauce--------.
  • combine mayo, sour cream, chili sauce and cayenne-mix well.
  • --------Dippingsauce----------.
  • Blend everything together well and let sit for 2 hours-refidgerated- or overnight.
  • --------Andfor the batter---------.
  • Mix cornstarch, flour and seasonings until well blended.
  • Add beer and mix well.
  • Cut about 3/4 inch off top of onion and peel.
  • Cut into onion 12-16 vertical wedges but do not cut through bottom root end.
  • Remove about 1 inch of petals from center of onion (You can place the cut onions in cold water for a few hours to help "open" them up -- just make sure that you drain them well).
  • Dip in seasoned flour and gently shake to remove excess.
  • Seperate peatls to coat thoroughly with batter.
  • Gently place in a fryer basket and deep fry at 375-400 for 1 1/2 minutes.
  • Turn over and fry 1 1/2 minutes more or until golden brown.
  • Drain on paper towels.
  • Place onion upright in a shallow bowl and remove center core with a circular cutter or apple corer.
  • Serve hot with chili sauce and dipping sauce.

OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE WALKABOUT ONION SOUP RECIPE - FOOD.COM

Outback Steakhouse Walkabout Onion Soup Recipe - Food.com image

This is a nice delightful soup that is easy to prepare. I personally like to use the 1015's sweet mild onions when they are in season.

Total Time 1 hours 15 minutes

Prep Time 15 minutes

Cook Time 1 hours

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 13

2 cups yellow sweet onions, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons butter
1 (15 ounce) can chicken broth
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon fresh pepper, ground
2 chicken bouillon cubes
1/4 cup Velveeta cheese, cubes, diced (compressed in measuring cup)
1 1/2-1 3/4 cups white sauce (below)
cheddar cheese, shredded (for garnish)
3 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups whole milk

Steps:

  • In 2 quart sauce pan place 3 tablespoons butter and sliced onions.
  • Cook at low to medium heat stirring frequently until soft and clear but not brown.
  • Add chicken broth from can, chicken bouillon cubes, salt, pepper, and stir until completely heated through.
  • Add white sauce and Velveeta cheese. White sauce will be thick because it has been removed from the heat. Simmer on medium low heat until the cheese is melted and all ingredients are blended, stirring constantly.
  • Turn temperature to warm and let cook for additional 30 to 45 minutes.
  • Serve with a garnish of shredded cheddar cheese, and a couple of slices of warm dark Russian Bread.
  • Thick White Sauce:.
  • In a 1 quart sauce pan melt butter and add flour, cook on medium heat until the flour turns thick and comes away from the sides of the sauce pan.
  • Pour milk in flour a little at a time and stir constantly, add salt. Mixture should thicken and become like thick pudding.
  • Remember to stir constantly taking care not to let mixture lump, set aside off from heat until ready to use for the soup.

TOP SECRET RECIPES | OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE BAKED POTATO SOUP
Menu Description: “Creamy potato soup topped with melted cheese, bacon, and green onions.” It’s not called baked potato soup because the potatoes in it are baked. It’s called baked potato soup because it’s topped with shredded cheese, bacon, and green onion, and it tastes like a loaded baked potato. Other hacky hacks for this recipe miss that point and add over an hour to the preparation process by preheating an oven and baking the potatoes, all while hungry stomachs are growling on the sidelines. My version skips that part by adding the raw potatoes directly into the pot with the other ingredients, where they cook in 20 minutes, and the soup is ready to eat in less time than other recipes take just to get the potatoes done. Also, other clones add way too much flour to thicken the soup—¾ cup! Sure, flour is good at thickening, but it doesn’t add any flavor, so I found a better way. I ended up using just a little flour to make the roux, then later thickening the soup mostly with dehydrated potato flakes, which are used to make quick mashed potatoes. The flakes not only do a great job of thickening the soup, but they also add more delicious potato flavor to the pot. Top your finished soup with shredded cheese, crumbled bacon, and green onion, and every spoonful will taste like a fully decked-out baked potato. Finish off your meal with a famous entrée from Outback like Alice Springs Chicken, or Toowoomba Steak.
