Yield 1 pastry shell (8 servings).

Number Of Ingredients 4

1-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup shortening
4 to 5 tablespoons cold water

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine flour and salt; cut in shortening until crumbly. Gradually add water, tossing with a fork until a ball forms. Roll out dough to fit a 9-in. or 10-in. pie plate. , Transfer crust to pie plate. Trim crust to 1/2 in. beyond rim of pie plate; flute edge. Fill or bake crust according to recipe directions.

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 whole wheat pie crust
6 medium Granny Smith apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)
3/4 cup maple syrup
1/4 cup whole wheat pastry flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoon cinnamon
3/4 cup heavy cream

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
  • Line 8-inch or 9-inch pie pan with whole wheat pie crust dough. Pierce crust along bottom and sides in several places.
  • Place sliced apples in the crust-lined pie pan.
  • Mix together remaining ingredients and pour over apples.
  • Place pie crust shields on the crust. Bake pie at 450 degree F for 15 minutes. Remove the pie crust shields and lower the oven temperature to 350 degrees F. Bake for an additional 55 to 60 minutes.
  • Cool and enjoy.

  • Add to a sauce pan over high heat: apples, lemon juice, sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, maple syrup, butter, cinnamon, cloves, corn starch and Grand Marnier. Bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer. Let cook for 5 minutes. Set aside and let cool for 15 minutes. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Unfold 1 Pillsbury Pie Crust in a 9 inch glass baking dish. Add the cooked apples, and spread out, but leave about 2 inches around the outside of crust free of apples. Fold the edges over the apples, all the way around (as shown in our photo). Use a pastry brush to add egg-wash to the outer crust. Bake for 25 minutes or until crust is golden brown.
