This recipe has been in my family for over 150 years. Every one in the family loves them.

2 cups white sugar
½ cup shortening
½ cup butter
3 eggs
5 teaspoons baking powder
½ cup milk
4 cups all-purpose flour

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease two cookie sheets.
  • Cream the sugar with the shortening and the butter or the margarine. Add the baking powder, eggs, milk and flour. Mix until combined.
  • On a lightly floured surface roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thick and cut into desired shapes. Place cookies on the prepared cookie sheets.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) until lightly browned.

Passed down for four generations, these buttery sugar cookies bring back fond memories of Grandma's cookie jar.

1 cup Land O Lakes® Butter softened
3/4 cup sugar
2 large Land O Lakes® Eggs (yolks only)
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
Pecan halves

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F.
  • Combine butter, sugar, egg yolks and vanilla in bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until well mixed. Add flour and salt; beat at low speed, scraping bowl often, until well mixed.
  • Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Place 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets. Flatten balls to 1/4-inch thickness with bottom of glass dipped in sugar. Place pecan half in center of each cookie.
  • Bake 10-12 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Cool 1 minute on cookie sheets; remove to cooling rack.
