This is a nutritious and delicious breakfast cereal. Use any type of dried fruit you desire! You can also use almonds in place of walnuts if you like. Wonderful when served in bowls with milk and fresh berries or sliced fresh fruit.

4?½ cups rolled oats
½ cup toasted wheat germ
½ cup wheat bran
½ cup oat bran
1 cup raisins
½ cup chopped walnuts
¼ cup packed brown sugar
¼ cup raw sunflower seeds

Steps:

  • In a large mixing bowl combine oats, wheat germ, wheat bran, oat bran, dried fruit, nuts, sugar, and seeds. Mix well. Store muesli in an airtight container. It keeps for 2 months at room temperature.

This Apple bircher muesli is a great way to start the day. Packed full of nuts, seeds and low GI fruit it will keep you going all morning. Add fresh pears if desired.

2 cups rolled oats
1 cup milk
¾ cup creamy natural yogurt
2 lemons, juiced
3 apples (Royal Gala, Fuji or Red Delicious)
2 tbsp sultanas
2 tbsp dried pears, chopped
2 tbsp roasted hazelnuts, roughly chopped
1 tbsp pepitas
2 tsp sunflower seeds
2 tsp sesame seeds
honey to taste

Steps:

  • Place the oats in a large bowl and stir through the milk and yogurt. Take 2 of the apples, cut into quarters and leaving the skin on, coarsely grate. Toss in the lemon juice and stir into the oat mixture.
  • Stir through the sultanas and dried pears. When ready to serve scatter over the hazelnuts, pepitas and sesame seeds. Divide among 4 bowls. Slice the remaining apples and put on top. Drizzle with honey to taste.
