EASY MODELLING CLAY RECIPE - FOOD.COM

Easy Modelling Clay Recipe - Food.com image

I found this recipe on a website called squiglysplayhouse.com while I was trying to help my kids with a school project. We were trying to create a medieval church. It is a simple recipe that takes very little time and costs a lot less to make than buying modelling clay.

Total Time 30 minutes

Prep Time 10 minutes

Cook Time 20 minutes

Yield 1 ball

Number Of Ingredients 4

3/4 cup water
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 1/4 cups flour
1 1/4 cups table salt

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350.
  • Mix all ingredients together until you have a soft ball of dough-if too dry add a bit of water.
  • Sprinkle some flour on counter and knead it until smooth and stretchy.
  • Shape the dough any way you want-use a toothpick or straw for making holes.
  • When finished shaping, put on cookie sheet and bake 20 minutes or until hard-timing depends on size of your piece of art.
  • Place on wire rack to cool.
  • Once cool, you can paint them.
  • When paint is dry a clear varnish can be added to give your creation a wonderful shine.

EDIBLE MODELING CLAY | JUST A PINCH RECIPES

Edible Modeling Clay | Just A Pinch Recipes image

This is a recipe that I found online searching for a recipe that uses everyday ingredients to make a clay for making figures to decorate a cake. I have not tested it yet, but will soon - I will post my results then. If you try it first, please let me know how it worked for you. I noticed in the directions about it being sticky so I am guessing more powered sugar could help along with a bit of refrigeration.

Categories     Other Desserts

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 pound(s) confectioners sugar
1/3 cup(s) light corn syrup
1/3 cup(s) butter
1/2 teaspoon(s) salt
1 teaspoon(s) flavoring extract (vanilla or your choice)
OPTIONAL
- several different paste or gel food colors

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients except any coloring.
  • Determine how many different colors you want and divide the clay into small bowls; one for each color and one for white.
  • Mix the individual colors in each bowl to the color intensity that you want.
  • Dough gets stickier as you work with it, but hardens a bit when refrigerated. (See my notes above)
  • Use the clay to make decorations for your baked items.
  • (NOTE: The article I read when I found this recipe stated that the Author had made comic figures, and a playground with landscape. Please let me know how this worked if you try this before I do)
