Steps:
- Peel and thinly slice potatoes.
- Coat bottom of 2 quart microwave dish with 3 tablespoons of butter.
- Layer 1/2 of potatoes, 1 cup cheese and 3 tablespoons of butter.
- Add next layer 1/2 potatoes and top with 1 cup cheese.
- Salt and pepper to taste.
- Add a thin layer of milk in bottom of dish, about 1/4".
- Cover dish with plastic wrap.
- Microwave on high for 10 minutes.
- Let sit 5 minutes before serving.

Steps:
- Layer the potatoes, onion, cheese, salt and pepper into a microwave safe casserole dish. Once finished layering, place 1 teaspoon of margarine on the top of the uppermost layer. Cover and cook in the microwave oven on HIGH for 10 minutes.
- Remove the dish from the microwave and stir before cooking for another 10 minutes or until done. Stir well and serve.

Pour over potatoes. Microwave, uncovered, on high for 4 minutes or until thickened, stirring twice. Stir in sour cream; sprinkle with cheese. Cook 3 minutes longer or until cheese is melted. - In a saucepan, melt the butter. Stir in flour, salt and pepper until smooth. Gradually stir in milk. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Reduce heat. Stir in cheese until melted. In a 2-1/2-qt. microwave-safe dish coated with cooking spray, layer a third of the potatoes, onion and cheese sauce. Repeat the layers twice. Cover and microwave on high for 25-30 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes until the potatoes are tender.

- 1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. 2. Place potatoes in a microwave-safe bowl, cover with hot water and microwave for 15 minutes or until potatoes have almost a soft texture, stirring a few times.
