Soft Italian Breadsticks (Abm) Recipe - Food.com image

Serve these wonderfully soft breadsticks warm out of the oven, brushed with melted butter and sprinkled with Parmesan cheese. Goes really well served with Italian meals. Recipe from Quick Cooking.

Total Time 35 minutes

Prep Time 20 minutes

Cook Time 15 minutes

Yield 24 breadsticks

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 cup warm water (70 to 80)
3 tablespoons soft butter
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
3 cups bread flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon italian seasoning
1 teaspoon garlic powder
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
1 tablespoon melted butter
1 tablespoon grated parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Place all dough ingredients in your bread machine pan according to manufacturers direction.
  • Select dough setting.
  • When dough cycle is complete, turn out onto floured board and divide dough in half.
  • Cut each portion into 12 pieces and roll each piece into a 4 to 6" rope.
  • Place 2" apart onto greased baking sheets.
  • Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 20 minutes or until doubled.
  • Bake at 350° for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Immediately brush with butter and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
  • Note: Be careful not to overbake or they will become tough.

These breadsticks with dipping oil are so addicting sprinkled with herbs, cheese, and spices. Perfect with any meal and both recipes are easy to make.

Number Of Ingredients 24

1/2  cup plus1 tablespoon water warm to the wrist
1/2  teaspoon salt
1 - 1/2 teaspoons honey
1 3/4 cups plus 1/2 tablespoon  flour
1 teaspoon active dry yeast 
2- 1/4 tablespoons olive oil
Note: Below are serving suggestions and garnish ideas before baking
Brush the sticks with water or oil first then with optional toppings:
Pecorino Romano cheese
granulated garlic powder
salt and pepper 
oregano
for a little heat add red pepper flakes or cayenne pepper
sesame seeds
rosemary
thyme
dill weed
fennel seed
After baking topping:
shredded cheese of any kind mozzarella and provolone is usually what we use
freshly chopped fine fresh garlic
fresh basil minced and parsley
drizzle with olive oil and Pecorino Romano Cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees
  • Prepare two cookies sheets with parchment paper
  • Dissolve the yeast in the warm water add to a stand mixer and stir this for 1 minute.
  • Add the salt, honey, and oil and stir.
  • Slowly add the flour and beat until it forms a ball.
  • Place on a cutting board and knead the dough for around 1 minute.
  • Let the dough for around 2 hours covered in a warm area.
  • Make the dough into sticks or twists.
  • If using the seasoning just sprinkle a little of each on top of the sticks.
  • If add sesame seeds you will need to brush with oil or water first so they stick.
  • Place on parchment paper and bake until golden browned around 15 minutes.
  • Ridiculously Delicious Dipping Oil
  • 1 cup basil leaves
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup pumpkin seeds or pine nuts
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 6 Kalamata olives
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • additional olive oil and bread for serving
  • Using a food processor, combine the basil, cheese, pine nuts, garlic, salt, and olives. 
  • Process until ingredients form a paste. Slowly add olive oil.
  • Use this for dipping breadsticks, homemade hot bread, or topping for pasta.
