ROYAL ICING RECIPE - MARTHA STEWART
This is our go-to recipe for royal icing. We use it for decorating cookies and cakes. To make it especially glossy, mix in a three drops of glycerin (available at drugstores).

Steps:
- Beat the whites until stiff but not dry. Add sugar, lemon juice and glycerin (if using); beat for 1 minute more. If icing is too thick, add more egg whites; if it is too thin, add more sugar. The icing may be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
BUTTERCREAM ICING RECIPE | ALLRECIPES
An easy to make egg-free frosting that works great for decorating cookies for holidays, birthdays and parties. When you need to add coloring to icing, use color paste. If you use liquid coloring, you may need to add more confectioner's sugar.

- In a large bowl, cream together the butter, shortening, and vanilla. Blend in confectioners' sugar, 1 cup at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in the milk, and continue mixing until light and fluffy. Keep icing covered until ready to decorate.
