Steps:

  • "Youll need the following: a cup of water, a cup of sugar, four large eggs, two cups of dried fruit, a teaspoon of baking soda, a teaspoon of salt, a cup of brown sugar, lemon juice and a bottle of whiskey. Sample the whiskey to check for quality. Take a large bowl. Check the whiskey again. To be sure it is the highest quality, pour one level cup and drink. Repeat. Turn on the electric mixer, beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add one teaspoon of sugar and beat again. Make sure the whiskey is still okay. Cry another tup. Turn off the mixer. Break to leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit. Mix on the turner. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers pry it loose with a drewscriver. Sample the whiskey to check of tonsisticity. Next, sift two cups of salt or something. Who cares? Check the whiskey. Now sift the lemonn juice and strain your nuts. Add one table. Spoon. Of sugar or something. Whatever you can find. Grease the oven. Turn the cake tin to 350 degrees. Dont forget to beat off the turner. These are Pennsylvania Dutch Funny Cakes, baked in a pie crust with a chocolate "funny" layer that sinks to the bottom while baking.

Yield 3 - 9 inch cakes

Number Of Ingredients 12

3 (9 inch) unbaked pie crusts
1 cup white sugar
½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
¾ cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1?½ cups white sugar
½ cup butter
2 eggs
1 cup milk
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2?½ cups all-purpose flour

Steps:

  • Combine 1 cup sugar, cocoa, water, and 1 teaspoon vanilla in a saucepan. Heat over medium-low heat to the boiling point, but do not boil. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, cream together 1 1/2 cup sugar and butter. Beat in eggs. Stir in milk and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Combine flour and baking powder; mix into the creamed mixture. Divide batter into the pastry shells. Pour 1/3 of the cocoa mixture on top of the cake batter in each pastry shell.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 25 to 35 minutes, or till cake is done.
