Yield Makes enough for two 9- or 10-inch tart shells

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup ice water
3 cups plus 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour, plus more for work surface
1 cup (2 sticks) plus 5 tablespoons very cold unsalted butter, cut into 1-inch pieces

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, mix together salt and water. Keep very cold until ready to use.
  • Place flour and butter in the bowl of a food processor. Pulse briefly until mixture forms large crumbs. Add the salt water mixture and continue pulsing until a dough has just formed but is not smooth.
  • On a lightly floured work surface, evenly divide dough. Form each piece of dough into a disk about 1 inch thick. Wrap each disk with plastic wrap and chill at least 2 hours and up to overnight.

I'd always been told that phyllo dough is really difficult to use, but I've found it's quite simple and I've fallen in love with this wonderful flaky pastry! You can fill these tarts with just about anything. Fruit fulling, puddings, etc. they make a wonderful, easy dessert!

Number Of Ingredients 2

1 package(s) frozen phyllo dough (1 roll) thawed
1/2 stick(s) butter, melted

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375.
  • lay out phyllo dough on a cutting board. Use a pizza wheel to cut it into six squares. Cover with a damp (almost dry) paper towel.
  • Brush the inside of two muffin tins with melted butter.
  • Uncover 1 stack of squares. Brush one sheet with melted butter and lay into muffin tin and pat down. Repeat this with five sheets. Continue until all the muffin tins are filled.
  • Bake in a 375 degree oven for 8 minutes or until golden brown.
