Slow Cooker French Onion Pork Chops Recipe | Allrecipes image

A lighter version of a wonderful main dish. Easy to prepare and add some quick sides to. Yummy!

nonstick cooking spray
5 pork chops
1 pinch garlic salt, or to taste
1 (10.5 ounce) can French onion soup (such as Progresso®)
1 (8 ounce) container light sour cream
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

Steps:

  • Spray a skillet with cooking spray and heat over medium-high heat. Quickly brown pork chops in the skillet, seasoning with garlic salt, 5 to 7 minutes total. Transfer to a slow cooker and pour French onion soup on top.
  • Cover and cook on Low for 8 hours.
  • Remove the chops and keep warm. Add sour cream and flour to the slow cooker, mix well, and warm until slightly thickened, 10 to 15 minutes. Serve sauce over the chops.

You’ve never had pork chops like this before! We took the classic flavors of French onion soup and added them to juicy pork chops for a simple and supremely satisfying weeknight dish.

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 large onions
2 cloves garlic, coarsely chopped
2 tablespoons oil
1 tablespoon sugar
4 bone-in pork chops, 3/4 inch thick (about 1 1/2 lb)
1 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 cup Progresso™ beef flavored broth
4 slices Swiss cheese (4 oz)

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 425°F. Cut onions in half, and cut into 1/4-inch slices.
  • In medium bowl, mix onions, garlic, 1 tablespoon of the oil and the sugar until evenly coated. Place on ungreased 15x10x1-inch pan. Bake 25 to 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until onions are tender and starting to brown.
  • Meanwhile, in 12-inch ovenproof skillet, heat remaining 1 tablespoon oil over medium-high heat until hot. Add pork chops; cook 3 to 4 minutes on each side or until lightly browned. Sprinkle with thyme, salt and pepper.
  • Top pork chops in skillet with cooked onion mixture. Add broth to skillet. Reduce oven temperature to 375°F. Bake 10 to 15 minutes or until pork is no longer pink and thermometer inserted in center reads 145°F. Top each pork chop with 1 slice cheese. Bake 2 to 3 minutes or until cheese is melted.

  • In a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat. In batches, brown pork chops 2-3 minutes on each side. Return all to pan., In a small bowl, mix remaining ingredients; pour over chops. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, covered, 4-5 minutes or until a thermometer inserted in pork reads 145°. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.
    Freeze option: Place pork chops in freezer containers; top with sauce. Cool and freeze. To use, partially thaw in refrigerator overnight. Heat through in a covered saucepan, gently stirring sauce; add a little water if necessary.
