1 Reynolds® Slow Cooker Liner
1 (12 fluid ounce) bottle dark German beer
1 cup thinly sliced onions
1 tablespoon maple syrup
1 tablespoon white vinegar
½ teaspoon caraway seeds
½ teaspoon dried thyme, crushed
½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
6 uncooked bratwurst links
6 hoagie buns, split and toasted
1?½ cups shredded Cheddar cheese
1?½ cups shredded lettuce

Steps:

  • Line a 5- to 6-quart slow cooker with a Reynolds® Slow Cooker Liner.
  • Add beer, onions, maple syrup, vinegar, caraway seeds, thyme, and Worcestershire sauce to the prepared slow cooker. Stir gently with a rubber spatula to combine. Place bratwurst on top of the mixture in cooker.
  • Cover and cook for 4 hours on high or for 8 hours on low.
  • Serve bratwursts and onions in toasted buns topped with cheese and lettuce, if desired.

This was really surprisingly good for such a quick and easy meal. The flavors blended well together and Dave added the mustard on the side. I thought this would serve 4 but Dave was hungry so I stated between 2-4 servings. He kept taking the brats out of the pan while I was cooking. From American Home Town Cookbook made my way.

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil
2 medium potatoes, cut in half lengthwise and sliced
4 -6 fully cooked bratwursts, cut into bite size pieces (I used Johnsonville)
1 small red onion, sliced
1/2 red pepper, sliced
1/2 yellow pepper, sliced
2 tablespoons teriyaki sauce
1 tablespoon orange juice
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/8 teaspoon black pepper (or more)

Steps:

  • In a large heavy skillet heat the oil over medium heat.
  • Cook the potatoes until they are lightly browned and crisp-tender, about 20 minutes turning occasionally.
  • Add the bratwurst, onion, and red and yellow bell peppers.
  • Stirring occasionally, cook until the vegetables are crisp-tender and heated through, 10-15 minutes.
  • Combine the teriyaki sauce, orange juice, basil,and pepper in a small bowl.
  • Stir the sauce mixture into the brats and vegetables, and heat through, about 5-10 minutes.
  • We served this with Stone Ground Mustard on the side for dipping the brats.

In the drippings, cook bratwurst for 10-15 minutes or until no longer pink. Remove and keep warm. Drain skillet. , In a small bowl, combine cornstarch and broth until smooth; set aside. Add the mustard, brown sugar, wine, vinegar and celery seed to skillet; cook and stir over medium heat until mixture is hot and bubbly., Gradually add cornstarch mixture. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Return bratwurst to the pan; cook and stir for 1-2 minutes longer or until glazed.
