Get a head start on this holiday cocktail for your party by making the cranberry simple syrup up to a day in advance.

1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup unsweetened cranberry juice
1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
¾ cup superfine sugar
2 ounces pisco brandy
1 ounce unsweetened cranberry juice
½ ounce lime juice
½ ounce egg white*
Angostura bitters

Steps:

  • For simple syrup: In a medium saucepan combine granulated sugar and the 1 cup cranberry juice. Heat over medium-high, whisking to dissolve sugar. Bring to a simmer; remove from heat. Stir in cranberries. Let stand 30 minutes. Cover and chill at least 4 or up to 24 hours.
  • Strain cranberries, reserving syrup. Place superfine sugar in a bowl. Working with a few at a time, roll cranberries in the sugar. Let dry on a parchment-lined baking sheet at least 1 hour. Thread onto cocktail picks.
  • For each cocktail, in a cocktail shaker combine pisco, the 1 oz. cranberry juice, the lime juice, egg white, and 1/2 oz. of the cranberry syrup. Shake 15 to 20 seconds. Fill cocktail shaker two-thirds full with ice; shake 20 seconds. Strain into a cocktail glass. Add three or four drops bitters to the cocktail and garnish with sugared cranberry skewer. Makes 1.

Great alternative to the typical cranberry salad served at Thanksgiving. This is a recipe that I have been making for so long that it is permanently imbedded in my memory. Very easy and delicious too.

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 (16 ounce) can jellied cranberry sauce
2 (3 ounce) packages black cherry-flavored gelatin mix (such as Jell-O®)
1?¾ cups boiling water
1 (16 ounce) carton sour cream

Steps:

  • Mash jellied cranberry sauce in a 3-quart bowl. Stir gelatin mix thoroughly into cranberry sauce. Pour boiling water into mixture and stir until gelatin has dissolved completely, about 3 minutes.
  • Chill in refrigerator until softly set, 2 to 3 hours. Gently fold sour cream into gelatin mixture, leaving marbled streaks of sour cream and gelatin mix. Return to refrigerator until firmly set, 4 hours to overnight. Store leftovers in refrigerator.

I can't say enough about this cake, it is moist, dense and buttery!... I have made this using mini chocolate chips and just recently made it with dried cranberries, I plan on making this for the holidays to serve to guests! I baked mine in a tube pan. Since I am making this cake again for the holidays, I plan on adding in some red food colouring in the glaze, and I will chop up frozen or fresh cranberries and add them into the cake batter, but that is only optional.
