BABY BOK CHOY - AUTHENTIC CHINESE RECIPE RECIPE - FOOD.C…

Baby Bok Choy - Authentic Chinese Recipe Recipe - Food.c… image

My mother taught me this basic technique for several vegetables. It can be used also with broccoli and gai lan for example. The result is a crisper texture at the end. The only unauthentic part of the recipe is using garlic salt instead of fresh garlic (but you can easily substitute back!)

Total Time 6 minutes

Prep Time 3 minutes

Cook Time 3 minutes

Yield 2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

10 bunches baby bok choy
1 tablespoon oil (I prefer sesame)
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1/4 cup chicken broth

Steps:

  • Clean baby bok choy in cold water several times to get out the sand/dirt. You can slice the vegetable in half length-wise if you like.
  • heat oil over medium heat in skillet. (very briefly if using sesame oil since this burns quickly).
  • If you are using fresh garlic instead of garlic salt, add to oil now.
  • Add baby bok choy to skillet, stirring constantly, about 1 min until leaves are coated with oil and beginning to wilt.
  • Add chicken broth and cover pan.
  • Simmer for 2-3 minutes. Test for doneness with a fork - if it can pierce the white thick part of the stalk without much resistance it is ready.
  • Remove from heat, add garlic salt.
  • When transferring to serving dish, you can move some of the broth but don't take the bottom bits since this may have residual sand.

Bok Choy with Pine Nuts and Sesame Seeds Recipe | Allrecipes image

This Asian-inspired bok choy dish with pine nuts and toasted sesame seeds tastes delicious over jasmine rice. If you use normal-sized bok choy, slice it in half before cooking. You can cook any green leafy vegetables this way and if you want a vegetarian version, just omit the fish sauce.

GRILLED OCTOPUS WITH KOREAN BARBECUE SAUCE AND BABY BOK ...
If you've ever ordered a delightfully meaty and tender, charred octopus dish at a restaurant and immediately thought to yourself, "Wow, I wish I could make this kind of thing at home," well—you can. And this recipe is going to light the way. Whether you're looking to dazzle your company at your next dinner party or wanting to make something extra special for a date night in, this grilled octopus dish is definitely worth stepping out of your cooking comfort zone for. As intimidating as it may seem, preparing octopus at home is easier than you'd think. Octopus can be found at specialty grocery stores (such as Whole Foods), fish markets, and Asian or international markets. The key to preparing this wow-worthy seafood at home is giving the meat a preliminary cook (no matter how you intend to proceed in preparing it) in order to tenderize the meat. In this recipe, we first simmer the octopus in a flavorful, aromatic-filled cooking liquid and finish then finish the cooking on the grill to develop bold, caramelized flavor and crispy char. We especially love how this preparation for octopus is so rich in flavor, but not at all heavy. Served alongside a vibrant Baby Bok Choy Slaw, this dish is as elegant as it is comforting.
