Directions. Cream shortening and slowly add sugar, eggs and pumpkin (or squash). Sift together flour, baking powder and soda; add alternately with milk to mixture. Fold in nuts and vanilla. Pour into 3 greased 8 layer cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes. Cool and frost before serving. Prep: 0:00.

Directions. Cream together sugar and shortening until light and fluffy. Stir in eggs, pumpkin and water. Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and spices. Gradually stir dry ingredients into the pumpkin mixture. Add nuts, blend well. Turn batter into 2 greased 9 x 3 x 3 bread pans. Bake at 350 degrees F for about an hour and 15 minutes or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean.
