PICKLED BEETROOT DYE – SURFING DUCKS



Pickled Beetroot Dye – Surfing Ducks image

Number Of Ingredients 2

10 gms sock yarn made into a skein
Juice of 500gm jar of pickled beetroot

Steps:

  • Pre soak yarn in cold water.
  • Sieve beetroot juice into a pan
  • Add yarn and gently ensure it has soaked up the dye evenly
  • Bring to a simmer and cook for 20 minutes
  • Leave to cool
  • Rinse, dry and admire
  • Notes

Yield Makes about 1 cup

Number Of Ingredients 2

3 medium red beets, peeled, quartered
½ cup sugar

Steps:

  • Bring beets and 3 cups water to a simmer in a small saucepan over medium-low heat; cook until beets have lost their vibrant red color and liquid is reduced by about one-third, 25–30 minutes.
  • Remove beets with a slotted spoon. Add sugar to beet liquid and simmer, swirling pan occasionally, until very deep red and reduced to about 1 cup, 10–15 minutes. Let dye cool before using.
