2 pound(s) beef chuck, boneless
2 tablespoon(s) cornstarch
1 tablespoon(s) oil
1/4 teaspoon(s) ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon(s) cloves, ground
1/4 teaspoon(s) black pepper
3/4 teaspoon(s) fennel seeds, crushed
3/4 teaspoon(s) red pepper, crushed
1 cup(s) water
3 teaspoon(s) sugar
4 tablespoon(s) soy sauce
2 - garlic cloves, pressed
2 tablespoon(s) water

Steps:

  • Cut beef into 2" cubes.
  • Combine garlic, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce and 1 teaspoon sugar in large bowl; stir in beef cubes until well coated.
  • Let stand 15 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, combine 1 cup water, remaining 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 2 teaspoons sugar, red pepper, fennel, black pepper, cloves and ginger; set aside.
  • Heat oil in dutch oven or large skillet over high heat.
  • Brown beef on all sides in hot oil.
  • Stir in soy sauce mixture.
  • Bring to boil; reduce heat and simmer, covered, 2 hours, or until beef is very tender.
  • Combine cornstarch with 2 tablespoons water; stir into beef mixture.
  • Cook and stir until mixture boils and thickens, about 1 minute.

1 pound sirloin steak, cut into bite size strips
1 tablespoon soy sauce
2 teaspoons cornstarch
¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper
1 clove garlic, minced
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
3 cups fresh broccoli florets
2 small onions, cut into wedges
1 (8 ounce) can water chestnuts, drained
¼ cup chicken broth
½ cup peanuts

Steps:

  • Toss beef with soy sauce, cornstarch, crushed red pepper and garlic in non-metal bowl. Cover and refrigerate 20 minutes.
  • Heat oil in wok or large skillet over high heat. Stir fry beef until no longer pink, 5 minutes. Stir in broccoli, onions and water chestnuts; cook 2 minutes. Pour in broth, and bring to a boil. Stir in peanuts, cook one minute more, and serve.
