Steps:
- Chill the chocolate bar by keeping it in the fridge, but don't freeze it.
- Mix the flours and bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) together.
- Add milk (traditional) or beer (which gives a lighter result) until you get a batter with the consistency of thin cream.
- Heat the oil until a small piece of bread will brown in a few seconds, but don't allow to smoke.
- Remove wrapper from chilled chocolate bar.
- Coat completely in batter.
- Carefully lower into hot oil and fry until golden brown.
- Serve, with ice cream or french fries, if you're so inclined.

RUMBLEDETHUMPS RECIPE - BBC FOOD
Similar to bubble and squeak, rumbledethumps are a traditional Scottish dish of buttery mash, cabbage and swede, baked until golden brown anc crispy. You can cook them earlier in the day and reheat in the oven – give them an extra 20 minutes or so from cold.

Number Of Ingredients 6
Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 180C/160C Fan/Gas 4.
- Cook the potatoes and swede in a saucepan of salted boiling water until tender. Drain well and return to the pan.
- Heat 50g/2oz butter in a pan and gently cook the cabbage for a few minutes, until the cabbage is tender but retains its colour.
- Add the cabbage to the pan with the potatoes and swede. Add the remaining 25g/1oz butter and mash together using a potato masher. Season, to taste, with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
- Place the mashed vegetables into an ovenproof lidded dish and top with the cheese. Cover with a lid and bake in the oven for about 30 minutes, then remove the lid and continue to cook for a further 15 minutes, or until piping hot and golden-brown on top.
