This recipe is for use with a krumkake iron. The rich smell of orange and spices will fill the air.

1 cup white sugar
½ cup butter, softened
2 eggs
1 teaspoon orange zest
¼ teaspoon ground cloves
¼ teaspoon ground cardamom
1?½ cups all-purpose flour
1 cup milk

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, cream together the butter, sugar, orange peel and eggs. Sift together the flour, cloves and cardamom. Add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture alternately with the milk. Mix until batter is completely smooth.
  • Grease the krumkake iron with oil or vegetable spray. Heat iron over medium low heat. You only need to grease the iron once.
  • Place one tablespoon of batter at a time onto the center of the iron, close, and hold firmly. Cook for 15 to 20 seconds, turning iron over halfway through. Remove krumkake from iron and roll into a cone. Repeat with the rest of the batter.

2 cups whole blanched almonds
1 1/2 cups pecan halves
1 1/2 cups whole almonds
1 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 large Land O Lakes® Eggs (whites only)
1 tablespoon freshly grated orange zest
1/2 cup Land O Lakes® Butter

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 325°F.
  • Spread all nuts into 15x10x1-inch baking pan. Bake, stirring occasionally, 20-25 minutes or until lightly toasted.
  • Combine sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt in bowl. Beat egg whites in bowl at high speed, scraping bowl often, until soft peaks form. Continue beating, gradually adding sugar mixture, until stiff peaks form. Gently stir in nuts and orange zest.
  • Melt butter 4-6 minutes in oven in same pan. Spread nut mixture into pan. Bake, stirring every 10 minutes, 20-30 minutes or until nuts are brown and no butter remains. Cool completely. Store in airtight container.

Divide dough in half., On a lightly floured surface, roll each portion of dough into a 9-in. square. Cut into 18 rectangles, 3x1-1/2-in. each. Place 2 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake 10-12 minutes or until edges are light golden. Remove from pans to wire racks to cool completely., For icing, in a large bowl, combine confectioners' sugar, meringue powder and enough water to reach a piping consistency. Beat on high speed with a portable mixer 10-12 minutes or on low with a stand mixer 7-10 minutes or until peaks form. Frost cookies. Using a #3 round tip, pipe designs on cookies; decorate as desired.
