I was trying to come up with a homemade BBQ sauce for my wife since she doesn't like traditional BBQ. This is what I came up with. You could add this sauce to any kind of pork ribs.

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 cup soy sauce
¾ cup dark brown sugar
2 tablespoons minced garlic
1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
1 tablespoon chile-garlic sauce (such as Sriracha®)
1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
1 teaspoon Asian (toasted) sesame oil
1?½ teaspoons ground black pepper
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon water

Steps:

  • Stir soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, rice wine vinegar, chile-garlic sauce, ginger, sesame oil, and black pepper together in a saucepan; bring to a boil.
  • Whisk cornstarch and water together in a small bowl until the cornstarch dissolves; pour into boiling soy sauce mixture. Reduce heat to medium-low and cook until the sauce is thick, 3 to 5 minutes.

300g pork belly (sliced)
300g beef steak (scotch fillet, skirt, sirloin; sliced)
200g Waygu beef steak (any kind; sliced)
1 lettuce head (green or red oak, mignonette, green butter)
20 kaettnip leaves (wild sesame leaves)
1½ tbsp sesame oil
½ bunch green onions (thinly julienned into 5cm)
½-1 tbsp Korean chilli powder
1 tbsp sugar
1½ tbsp rice wine vinegar
1 tbsp sesame oil
½ tbsp finely ground salt
½ tsp pepper
4 tbsp sesame oil
Garlic (sliced)
Green chillies (sliced)
Cooked rice
Ssamjang

Steps:

  • To Make Korean BBQ at Home Arrange lettuce and sesame leaves on a plate. Set aside. Divide garlic slices and green chilli slices into 4 individual portions. Pour sesame oil to a cast iron frying pan (or any frying pan) and cook meat in batches. To Make Pajeori Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl just prior to serving. To Make Sesame Oil and Salt Dipping Sauce Divide salt and pepper equally in 4 sauce dishes. Pour 1 tbsp of sesame oil over each dish. Serve with Korean BBQ as dipping sauce. To Serve Serve meat with rice, lettuce and sesame leaves wraps, garlic and chilli slices, pajeori (green onion salad), ssamjang, and sesame oil and salt dipping sauce. Tip Cook meat in the middle of dining table using portable stove is preferable, ie tabletop cooking.
