Italian Meatloaf Recipe: How to Make It - Taste of Home image

My husband doesn't even like meat loaf, but he'll always eat this irresistible Italian meatloaf! He likes this dish because it offers a wide variety of flavors. —Myra Innes, Auburn, Kansas

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce, divided
1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
1 large egg, beaten
1 teaspoon dried minced onion
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1-1/2 pounds lean ground beef (90% lean)
1-1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 jar (6 ounces) sliced mushrooms, drained
Optional: Marinara sauce and minced fresh oregano

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°. In large bowl, combine 3/4 cup tomato sauce, crumbs, egg, onion, salt and oregano; add beef. Mix lightly but thoroughly. Cut two pieces of waxed paper 15-in. long. Place meat mixture in center of one rectangle; cover with second rectangle. , With a rolling pin, press meat into a 13x9-in. rectangle. Remove top sheet of waxed paper. Top with cheese, mushrooms and remaining tomato sauce. Roll up meat, jelly-roll style, starting at narrow end; use waxed paper to help. Place meat seam side down; seal ends securely. Place in a greased 9x5-in. loaf pan. , Bake for 30 minutes. Drain; bake until a thermometer reads 160°, 25-30 minutes longer. If desired, serve with marinara and oregano.

This moist Italian meatloaf boasts a perfectly balanced combination of ground beef, Italian sausage, parmesan cheese, and breadcrumbs.

Number Of Ingredients 17

1 tbsp olive oil
4 minced garlic cloves
2 oz finely chopped red onion
4 oz grated carrot
2 oz finely chopped celery
1 oz finely chopped green bell pepper
1 oz finely chopped fresh basil
2 lb 85% lean ground beef
½ cup Parmesan cheese
to taste chili powder
1 tsp salt
½ tsp ground black pepper
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 eggs
? cup Italian-style bread crumbs
½ cup whole milk
? cup or tomato sauce marinara sauce

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 380 degrees F. Grease a 9x5-inch glass baking dish.
  • Heat up a saute pan to medium.
  • Add the butter and quickly saute the garlic, onion, carrot, bell pepper, and celery for about 2 minutes or until soft.
  • Transfer the vegetables in a large bowl.
  • Add the breadcrumbs, milk, and eggs. Mix to combine.
  • Add salt, pepper, parmesan cheese, ground beef, sausage, basil, Worcestershire sauce, and chili powder. Mix by hand until combined.
  • Lightly press the mixture onto the prepared loaf pan. Top it with marinara sauce.
  • Cover the top of the loaf pan with aluminum foil. Bake meatloaf for 40 minutes, then remove the aluminum foil. Continue to bake for another 30 to 40 minutes or until an instant read thermometer inserted in the middle reads to 160 degrees F.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes before transferring onto a cutting board or serving platter and slicing.
  • Serve and enjoy!
