A friend of the family shared this recipe several years ago. These rolls are very impressive and look like you have worked hard...only the cook knows. Prep/cooking time does not include rise time.

Total Time 30 minutes

Prep Time 20 minutes

Cook Time 10 minutes

Yield 48 rolls, 24 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 (1/4 ounce) packages active dry yeast
1 tablespoon sugar, plus
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup warm water
1 cup milk, scalded (2 min. in microwave)
3 eggs, beaten
6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted & cooled
1 teaspoon salt
7 cups flour (I use Gold Medal Bread Flour)

Steps:

  • Dissolve yeast, 1 Tablespoon sugar in the water.
  • Let stand (proof) for 5 minutes.
  • Mix butter, salt, milk and remaining sugar in large mixing bowl.
  • Add 2 cups flour mixing well.
  • Add yeast and beaten eggs. Beat well.
  • Add remaining flour or enough to make a soft dough.
  • Cover dough and let rest 20 minutes.
  • Knead dough on lightly floured board and place in a greased bowl.
  • Cover and let rise until double in bulk.
  • Punch down and divide dough into thirds. Roll into a 12" diameter circle, cut circle into 16 pie shaped pieces.
  • Roll up into crescent shapes starting with the wides end.
  • Place crescent rolls on greased cookie sheet and let rise 1 hour - cover lightly with plastic wrap or flour sack tea towel. Repeat with remaining dough.
  • Bake 10-12 minutes in 375º oven or until golden brown.
  • *Note - leave plenty of room on sheets - these rolls need plenty of room - do not crowd.

My daughter fell in love with my bread machine and she is always trying out new recipes, here is her best find yet. The rolls are soft and buttery, a perfect accompaniment to soup and salad.

Total Time 2 hours 15 minutes

Prep Time 2 hours

Cook Time 15 minutes

Yield 16 rolls

Number Of Ingredients 9

1/2 cup warm water
1/2 cup warm milk
1 egg
1/3 cup butter, softened
1/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
3 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 (1/4 ounce) package active dry yeast
1/4 cup butter, melted

Steps:

  • Place ingredients into bread maker in order recommended by manufacturer: water, milk, egg, 1/3 cup butter, sugar, salt, flour and yeast. Reserve additional butter butter (1/4 cup) for later.
  • Select dough/knead cycle and start. This cycle should mix dough and allow it to rise for 1 hour.
  • Turn dough out onto a floured surface and roll into a circle, about 1/4 inch thick. Brush with additional butter.
  • Cut into 16 pie shaped wedges. Roll wedges starting with wide end into crescent shapes.
  • Place on an ungreased baking sheet and allow to rise for an additional hour.
  • Bake for 10- 15 minutes at 375°F or until golden brown.
