This cider braised pork roast recipe is so easy yet very flavorful. Take a leaf out of Cracker Barrel's signature menu with this tender pork roast dish .

1/2 tsp. dried sage
1/2 tsp. dried thyme
1/2 tsp. pepper
1/2 tsp. salt
3 lb. boneless top loin pork roast
1 onion
4 apples
1 tbsp. minced garlic
3 tbsp. quick-cooking tapioca
3/4 cup chicken broth
3/4 cup apple cider

Steps:

  • Combine sage, thyme, pepper, and salt to create a dry rub.
  • Trim the fat from the meat and rub in the spice mixture.
  • Brown the meat in a large skillet and set aside.
  • Roughly chop the onion and apples, then place them in a slow cooker with the garlic and tapioca.
  • Put the meat on top. Slowly pour in the broth and cider.
  • Put your slow-cooker on the low setting and cook for 8-10 hours. Serve.

Another recipe that I just had to share with you all. I made this for our New Year's Day 2016 dinner. It was my first time to braise a cut of meat and it turned out so lovely. We had sauerkraut, haluski, hoppin' john & mashed potatoes which all paired well with this pork. We ended up making a gravy with the sauce by adding a little cornstarch. It's certainly a beautiful way to make & serve pork shoulder. I'm looking forward to making it again for my parents. This recipe is originally from Dillard's Christmas Cookbook 2015 with just a few changes.

  • Season all sides of roast with salt and pepper. I often will add Garlic Powder, too. Heat olive oil in large, heavy skillet and brown the roast on all sides(about 15 minutes). Put roast on top of onions. Sprinkle sage over the roast and top with apples. Cook on low 5-8 hours, depending on how much you want the roast to shred. I like it for 5 hours if serving in chunks. I will cook for 8 hours if I want pulled pork. It will fall apart!
