Number Of Ingredients 8

2 c. purified water
1 slice (about the size of a quarter) fresh ginger
2 tsp. dried chamomile (or 1 tea bag's worth)
2 tsp. dried fennel, crushed
1/2 tsp. dried cardamom, crushed
1/2 to 1 tsp. coconut sugar or other natural sweetener to taste {no honey until baby is over a year old; also avoid no- or low-calorie sweeteners like stevia, xylitol, erythritol, or artificial sweeteners}
1/4 tsp. ground ceylon cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ground clove

Steps:

  • Bring the water to a boil in a saucepan or tea kettle.
  • Put the ginger, chamomile, fennel, and cardamom in a cloth tea bag.
  • Remove the water from the heat and add the tea bag. Allow to steep for about half an hour.
  • Remove the tea bag. Add the coconut sugar or other non-honey sweetener, cinnamon, and clove to the tea. Store in an airtight, glass container in the refrigerator or freeze into ice cubes.

This "tea" is great for colicky babies or babies who don't burp properly and are prone to gas. Also great for anyone with gas no matter what age. It's wonderful after any kind of abdominal surgery. Great to give to kids with any kind of tummy upset. This is also know as "The Italian Grandmother Cure". The full recipe makes about 4 adult servings or 16 to 32 infant servings

4 cups water
4 -5 bay leaves

Steps:

  • Place the bay leaves and the cold water in a medium saucepan.
  • Bring to a boil.
  • Boil for 3 minutes. The mixture will turn a pale green, similar to some green teas.
  • Let cool a bit.
  • For adults and older children drink one cup when you have gas or other stomach upset.
  • For infants, feed one to two ounces, depending on age, whenever baby has gas.
  • Be aware that this will make you feel much better, and it will make you pass gas.
  • You can make half the recipe for an infant as this should be drunk before it gets cold. The basic formula is one medium bay leaf for every 1 cup of water.
