BACON-WRAPPED DATES RECIPE | FOOD NETWORK



Bacon-Wrapped Dates Recipe | Food Network image

24 large pitted dates
2 tablespoons heavy cream 
1/2 cup blue cheese, at room temperature 
1 pound thick-cut bacon (12 slices) 

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Slice the dates lengthwise three-quarters of the way down. In a small bowl, press the cream into the blue cheese with a fork. Press a small scoop of the blue cheese into the center of the dates and close them back up. Cut each piece of bacon in half. Wrap each halved bacon strip around a date. Secure with a toothpick.
  • Place the bacon-wrapped dates on a baking sheet. Bake until the bacon is crisp, 15 to 20 minutes.

Number Of Ingredients 9

1/3 cup finely chopped onion
1 tablespoon butter
3 cups cubed day-old bread
1/4 teaspoon celery salt
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 large egg, lightly beaten
10 bacon strips

Steps:

  • In a small skillet, saute onion in butter until tender. In a large bowl, combine the bread cubes, celery salt, garlic powder, salt, pepper and onion mixture; toss to mix evenly. Add egg; toss to coat bread cubes. Roll into ten 1-1/4-in. balls. Wrap a bacon strip around each ball. Secure with a toothpick., In a large skillet, cook bacon roll-ups on all sides over medium heat for 18 minutes or until bacon is crisp and a thermometer inserted into stuffing reads at least 160°. Drain on paper towels.

So you will have lots of leftover dates. I used my extra dates to test this recipe out with turkey bacon (note: nowhere near as good as with regular bacon, but still tasty) and the turkey bacon made a lot more appetizers. But I still have leftover dates. So maybe adjust recipe to say 1/2 pound dates.
