Tofu Stir Fry Recipe by Tasty image

Here's what you need: garlic, fresh ginger, honey, sriracha, lime juice, reduced sodium soy sauce, extra firm tofu, sesame oil, sliced white onion, sliced carrot, sliced red bell pepper, edamame, soba noodle, sesame seed, green onion

Provided by Kahnita Wilkerson

Yield 2 servings

Number Of Ingredients 15

4 cloves garlic, minced, divided
2 teaspoons fresh ginger, grated
1 tablespoon honey
1 teaspoon sriracha
¼ cup lime juice
¼ cup reduced sodium soy sauce
1 block extra firm tofu
2 tablespoons sesame oil
1 cup sliced white onion
1 cup sliced carrot
1 cup sliced red bell pepper
½ cup edamame, frozen, thawed
3 cups soba noodle, cooked
1 tablespoon sesame seed
green onion, chopped, to serve

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, mix together 2 cloves of garlic, the ginger, honey, Sriracha, lime juice, and soy sauce. Set aside.
  • Wrap the tofu in a dish towel, then place a plate on top. Let drain for 10-15 minutes, then remove the plate, unwrap the tofu, and slice into cubes.
  • In a wok or large frying pan, heat the sesame oil over medium heat. Add the tofu and pan fry for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Add the remaining 2 cloves of minced garlic and the onion and stir until softened, about 1 minute.
  • Add the carrot, bell pepper, and edamame and cook, stirring occasionally, until tender, 2-3 minutes.
  • Add the soba noodles, reserved sauce, and sesame seeds. Cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring occasionally, until warmed through. Remove the pan from the heat.
  • Garnish with green onions, if desired.
  • Enjoy!

Cook Time 0S

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 19

1

(14-oz.) block extra-firm tofu, fresh or frozen and defrosted

1 tbsp.

low-sodium soy sauce

1 tbsp.

sesame oil

1/2 tsp.

freshly ground black pepper

2 tbsp.

cornstarch

3 tbsp.

extra-virgin olive oil, divided

Kosher salt

3

cloves garlic, minced

1 tbsp.

freshly minced ginger

8 oz.

string beans, trimmed

2

small carrots, sliced

1

small head broccoli, cut into florets

1

red bell pepper, seeded and sliced

2

green onions, thinly sliced

2 tbsp.

low-sodium soy sauce

2 tsp.

sesame oil

1/4 c.

water

2 tbsp.

packed brown sugar

2 tsp.

cornstarch

Steps:

  • In a medium pot of salted boiling water, simmer tofu for 2 minutes. If using frozen tofu, simmer until completely defrosted. Remove from heat and let drain in a colander lined with paper towels. When cool enough to handle, gently squeeze and pat dry. If using frozen tofu, use firmer pressure to squeeze out water. Cut tofu into bite-sized pieces, then toss together with soy sauce, sesame oil, and black pepper in a medium bowl. Once liquids are absorbed, toss tofu with cornstarch.  In a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat 2 tablespoons oil. Add tofu and let cook until golden on all sides, turning occasionally, 7 to 8 minutes. Season with salt and pepper, and remove from skillet and set aside.  Heat remaining 1 tablespoon oil and add in garlic and ginger and cook until fragrant, 1 minute. Stir in string beans, carrots, broccoli, red pepper, and green onions. Cook until tender, about 8 to 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. In a small bowl, stir together soy sauce, sesame oil, water, brown sugar, and cornstarch. Return tofu to skillet and add sauce mixture to pan. Stir and cook until slightly thickened, 2 minutes.

CRISPY TOFU AND CABBAGE STIR-FRY RECIPE - NYT COOKING
This tumble of crisp tofu, charred cabbage and citrusy coriander includes a couple tricks you’ll want to employ in other dishes. The flavor of the stir-fry is propelled by using the coriander plant multiple ways: Combining coriander seeds with fresh stems and leaves — also known as cilantro — creates a range of complex but related flavors. Then there’s what might be the quickest — and your new favorite — way to cook cabbage: When large pieces of cabbage are cooked undisturbed in a hot pan, they don’t have a chance to turn to mush. Instead, the cabbage becomes sweet and crisp-tender, with a smoky edge. Eat the stir-fry with grains or noodles, like rice noodles or soba. • In the same skillet, heat the remaining 2 tablespoons of oil over medium-high. Add the tofu and cook until golden on all sides, 2 to 3 minutes per side, adding more oil and scraping the bottom of the pan as necessary. Remove from heat, add the coriander seeds and stir gently until fragrant and toasted, 1 to 2 minutes. Add the cabbage-onion mixture and stir to combine, then stir in the cilantro and lime juice.
