Mama’s Spaghetti Recipe : Taste of Southern image

This very simple and basic recipe for homemade Spaghetti was one of my childhood favorites. Bacon grease is the key to make it taste like Mama's.

Prep Time 15 minutes

Cook Time 5 minutes

Number Of Ingredients 5

8 oz. uncooked Spaghetti Pasta
1 can Tomato Sauce (15oz)
1 medium Onion, chopped
3 Tablespoons Bacon Grease
Salt and Pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Chop the onion.
  • Place bacon grease in skillet over Medium heat on stove top. Let melt.
  • Add the chopped onions. Cook onions until translucent and tender, stirring often.
  • Prepare the pasta according to package directions. Drain well.
  • Place cooked onions and tomato sauce in pot that you cooked pasta in.
  • Let cook for about 2 -3 minutes until the tomato sauce is hot.
  • Add the drained spaghetti and stir well to fully coat all the pasta noodles.
  • Serve warm.
  • Enjoy!

My Nana made this for us when we were kids and it's been a family favorite for as long as I can remember. This is the kind of recipe that you can add or subtract ingredients or just go with what you have on hand and it still turns out good.

Number Of Ingredients 11

1/2 pound(s) spaghetti
1/2 pound(s) bacon, uncooked (diced)
3 - onions (sliced)
1 1/2 pound(s) ground beef
2 tablespoon(s) parsley
1/2 can(s) kidney beans, drained
1/2 can(s) peas
1/2 can(s) tomatos (chopped)
1/2 pound(s) cheddar cheese, shredded
1 can(s) mushroom pieces
2 - green peppers (chopped)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 250 Cook spaghetti in salted water according to package directions. Set aside.
  • Fry bacon in skillet until almost crisp. Add onions & hamburger and fry until golden brown. Add all vegetables and simmer 5-8 min.
  • Layer in lightly sprayed or greased baking dish. One layer of pasta, a layer of meat & vegetables and a layer of cheese. Repeat until baking dish is full ending with cheese.
  • Bake in slow oven (about 250-275) for 2 hours.
