Southern Peach Cobbler Recipe - Taste of Southern image

Our peach cobbler can easily be made with either fresh or frozen peaches. Great dessert for most any meal and a real old Southern favorite.

Number Of Ingredients 9

4 cups sliced Peaches, fresh or frozen (thawed)
1 cup sugar, divided
1/2 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1 teaspoon Lemon Juice
1 stick butter, melted
1 cup All-Purpose Flour
2 teaspoons Baking Powder
Dash of salt
3/4 cup Milk

Steps:

  • Place peaches in a large mixing bowl.
  • Add ½ cup of the sugar.
  • Add extract.
  • Add lemon juice.
  • Toss gently to coat peaches. Set aside.
  • Place flour in a separate small bowl.
  • Add baking powder.
  • Add the other ½ cup sugar.
  • Add dash of salt.
  • Stir dry ingredients together.
  • Gradually stir in the milk until batter is smooth.
  • Pour melted butter into baking dish (3qt)
  • Pour flour mixture on top of butter. Do not stir.
  • Pour peaches over top of flour mixture. Do not stir.
  • Bake at 350F degrees for 50-60 minutes until golden brown on top.
  • Enjoy!

I love a nice & juicy peach cobbler with some good crust on top and this one hits the spot ! This is about like Gramma used to make when I was growing up. Funny, a lot of our best memories centered around eating !

5 cup(s) ripe juicey peaches ,sliced
1 cup(s) sugar
1 tablespoon(s) cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon(s) ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon(s) pure vanilla extract
1/4 stick(s) butter
BISCUIT TOP ( BELOW )
1 1/4 cup(s) all - purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon(s) salt
1 1/2 teaspoon(s) baking powder
1/2 stick(s) butter
1/2 cup(s) milk

Steps:

  • Preheat oven 425*F Peel peaches by dipping onto boiling water for about 1 minute then slipping skins off.Slice into wedges, discarding pits.Place peaches in a 9" or 10" baking dish or casserole.In a small bowl mix sugar,cornstarch,vanilla and cinnamon with fork and sprinkle over peaches.Dot with butter and cover with rolled out biscuit dough for top. ( see below )
  • In medium bowl whisk together flour,salt, and baking powder.Cut in shortening using pastry blender or two knives.Stir in milk ,all at once,stirring with a fork until dough clings together.pat or roll out dough to 1/4" thick to shape of dish and place over peaches.Crimp and flute edge to seal.Cut steam vent in center.
  • Bake at 425* F for 20 minutes the reduce to 325*F.Bake for an additional 15 minutes or until peaches are done and top is golden.
