1 bar Castile soap
Grater
2 cups water
Saucepan
Stirrer
4 ounces baking soda
8 ounces washing soda
8 ounces Borax
15 drops lavender essential oil
Hot water
5-gallon bucket with lid

Steps:

  • Grate the bar soap and add to the saucepan with two cups of water.
  • Heat on medium until soap dissolves completely.
  • Carefully pour the mixture into the bucket and add washing soda, baking soda, and Borax.
  • Stir well.
  • Slowly add hot water to almost the top of the bucket.
  • Stir again.
  • Put the lid on and wait at least 24 hours.
  • Add the lavender essential oil and stir.
  • Use 1/2 cup per normal load of laundry.

1 bar Fels Naptha soap, grated
32 ounces water
Saucepan
Spoon
Bucket with a lid
8 ounces washing soda
8 ounces Borax
Hot water

Steps:

  • Add the 4 cups of water and grated soap to the pot and heat on medium until soap is dissolved. Stir constantly.
  • Pour hot water into the bucket halfway and add the soapy water.
  • Stir.
  • Add the washing soda and baking soda and stir again.
  • Fill the container the rest of the way with hot water and stir.
  • Put on the lid and allow to sit for at least a day before using.
  • Use one cup for top-loading washers and 1/2 cup for HE washing machines.
