In 1904, the first banana split recipe was made here in Latrobe, Pennsylvania by David Strickler, an apprentice pharmacist at a local drug store. We still use his original formula when we make banana splits in our restaurants. —Melissa Blystone, Valley Dairy

This pie is easy to make and requires no cooking and is so yummy! A Christmas favorite of my family and friends. This recipe contains raw eggs. We recommend that pregnant women, young children, the elderly and the infirm do not consume raw eggs.

TRADITIONAL BANANA SPLIT RECIPE - FOOD.COM
There is some debate in our ice cream parlor what the "traditional" split consists of. I did some research before we opened and it seems that this is the most consistently "traditional" split served, even though some have marshmallow, peanuts, crushed cherries and more. I prefer hot fudge over the chocolate syrup, personally :P

  • Pre-heat the oven. Rub some of the butter around the inside of a 1kg/2lb loaf tin or insert a baking liner. Chop the butter into small cubes. Put the butter cubes and sugar into a mixing bowl and beat until pale and creamy. Beat in the vanilla extract. Break the eggs into the bowl, one a time, beating well between each. Add half the flour to the bowl and beat well. Mash the bananas, add these to the bowl and beat again. Add the remaining flour to the bowl and mix it in. Tip the mixture into the prepared tin and smooth the top. Bake for 55–60 minutes. Leave the cake to cool in the tin for 20 minutes then turn it out onto a wire rack to cool.

ONE-INGREDIENT BANANA ICE CREAM RECIPE - NYT COOKING
This outrageously easy "ice cream" is just the sort of dessert to please everyone at the table – the vegans, the lactose-intolerant, the paleo enthusiasts, the picky children. Just toss four frozen bananas into a blender and give it a good whirl. If you like soft-serve consistency, eat it right away (and adding a few tablespoons of milk to the blender wouldn't hurt, but it's not necessary). For more traditional scoops, freeze it in an airtight container, and dole out as you would the Ben & Jerry's. Consider adding a spoonful of peanut butter, Nutella or honey; a handful of chocolate chips or almonds; or a 1/2 teaspoon of powdered ginger, cardamom or cinnamon.
