Fruit Crisp Topping Mix Recipe: How to Make It image

5 cups quick-cooking oats
5 cups packed brown sugar
5 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
ADDITIONAL INGREDIENTS:
1 can (21 ounces) cherry pie filling or pie filling of your choice
1/4 cup cold butter, cubed
Vanilla ice cream, optional

Steps:

  • Combine the first seven ingredients. Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place for up to 1 year. Yield: 13 batches (13 cups total)., To prepare fruit crisp: Place pie filling in an 8-in. square baking dish. Cut butter into 1 cup topping mix until crumbly; sprinkle over fruit. Bake at 350° for 30-40 minutes or until lightly browned. Serve warm with ice cream if desired.

NOTES: Dry roasted mixed nuts can be used in place of regular mixed nuts. Reduced calorie margarine can be substituted for regular margarine. 7 cups Crispix cereal, by Kellogg's
1 cup mixed nuts
1 cup pretzel
3 tablespoons margarine, melted (or butter)
1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
1/4 teaspoon onion salt
2 teaspoons lemon juice
4 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 250 degrees.
  • Combine Kellogg's Crispix cereal, nuts and pretzels in a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan. Set aside.
  • Stir together the remaining ingredients. Pour over cereal mixture. Stir until evenly coated.
  • Bake for about 45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes. Spread on paper towels to cool.
  • Store in airtight container.
