Ingredients

2 tablespoons canola oil
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
1/8 teaspoon pepper
2 cups walnut halves
1/2 cup packed brown sugar

Steps:

In a large heavy skillet, combine the oil, vinegar and pepper. Cook and stir over medium heat until blended. Add walnuts and cook over medium heat until nuts are toasted, about 4 minutes. , Sprinkle with brown sugar. Cook and stir until sugar is melted, 2-4 minutes. Spread on foil to cool. Store in an airtight container.

Ingredients

1 cup walnuts
2 tablespoons butter
1 -2 tablespoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Steps:

In a heavy bottom pan heat to medium high heat.
Place nuts and butter, when butter is melted and nuts are coated with the butter sprinkle sugar and cinnamon if wanted over nuts stirring till carmelized.
Pour out on parchment paper separate nuts and cool.

While the nuts are still warm, transfer them to a bowl and sprinkle evenly with about half of the spice mix. Toss well to distribute the spices and then taste a nut. Add more spice mix, to taste, and toss well after each addition. When cool, pack in an airtight jar. They will keep at room temperature for at least 2 weeks.
