TIGER NUT SWEETS – A SWEET TREAT BY THE ANCIENT EGYPTIANS ...
The ancient Egyptians are best known for their elaborate architecture, religious beliefs, and historical record. Lucky for all of us, they also had written language. Dating back to 1400 BCE this ancient Egyptian recipe is among the oldest written recipes ever found! It is one of the few desserts that can claim to be thousands of years old. The recipe was found by an archaeologist printed on a piece of clay. This is an easy recipe to make, and can be a great activity to do with children to increase their knowledge of ancient Egypt.

Steps:
- De-seed and chop the dates and put into a bowl
- Add the water and stir well with a fork
- Stir in the chopped walnuts and cinnamon
- Use a tablespoon to scoop and shape the mixture into small balls
- Pour the honey into a bowl
- Put the finely chopped almonds onto a plate
- Have a clean plate ready to put the finished sweets onto
- Coat the mixture portions in honey, and then roll in the chopped almonds
