Spicy Garlic Aioli Recipe | Allrecipes image

This is a spicy, kicked up aioli that is great with seafood, or with crudites. I served it with deep fried baby octopus, and when they were gone, my guests cleaned out the serving bowl with the lime wedge used for garnish! Serve with a light drizzle of olive oil on top.

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 chile peppers
1 cup mayonnaise
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon fresh parsley
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Set oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source and preheat the oven's broiler. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
  • Cut chile peppers in half from top to bottom; remove the stem, seeds, and ribs. Place peppers with cut sides down onto the prepared baking sheet.
  • Cook under the preheated broiler until the skin of the peppers has blackened and blistered, 5 to 8 minutes.
  • Place blackened peppers into a bowl and tightly seal with plastic wrap. Allow peppers to steam as they cool, about 20 minutes. Remove and discard skins. Mince peppers.
  • Mix mayonnaise, garlic, parsley, salt, and black pepper together in a bowl with roasted peppers. Refrigerate until flavors have blended, 8 hours to overnight.

This healthier sauce is the perfect accompaniment to dishes like steamed artichokes or as a spicy crudite dip.

2 garlic cloves, peeled
1 large pasteurized egg yolk
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
3/4 cup olive oil
1 tablespoon sweet paprika
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon hot pepper sauce, such as Tabasco
Coarse salt and ground pepper

Steps:

  • Bring an inch of water to a boil in a small saucepan. Add garlic and cook until easily pierced with tip of a paring knife, 3 to 5 minutes; drain. Use a chef's knife to mash garlic into a paste.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk garlic, egg yolk, Dijon, and lemon juice. Whisking constantly, add oil in a thin stream. Whisk in paprika, cayenne, and hot pepper sauce. Season with salt and pepper.

It is very thick in appearance and looks like the result of dried chilies, garlic, and oil being pureed in the food processor. This isn't to be confused with Sriracha or chili sauce.
